Hi boys, i am considering caliper rebuild/refurb, front and back. I am sure some of you have done it. How much does it cost? And what about black calipers with yellow letters for LY r26?
hi quite easy to do, even better with an air line, black with yellow letters sounds good. seal kits http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_o...epair.TRS0&_nkw=megane+brembo+repair&_sacat=0 Stickers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brembo-Br...388247?hash=item3f5a262257:g:P6UAAOSwo3pWcB0Z
Thanks for the advice mate, at first i was thinking of doing it myself, but now i would like to have it done professionally, nice tough coating and clean letters, want to last it for a while. And when its being refurbished get it rebuilded at same time
When I bought new calipers on my r26 they were like £150 each I think so consider that against cost of refurb, can sell your old ones on for someone to diy
I'm tempted to do that myself, sell the old ones for about a 100 so in theory it'll only cost 200 for a new set
I'll be doing a full guide in next few weeks when I fully refurbish my Brembo's and rear calipers. Its all all about the prep work that's key. Good prep means the final finish will be flawless. Have them bead blasted if your gonna do them yourself or drop them down to a local powder coater.
Will do lads. It's possible I may look at offering a service to refurb them. Just need to look at costings etc. Work have just had a new blast room installed and open back paint booth and I have full use of them at weekends.
ive just refurbished a set, i got them powder coated powdercoat - £15 ( total was £60 for front/rear calipers, rear brackets, inlet, strut bar) seals - £29.99 Calipers by matt eaton, on Flickr Built calipers by matt eaton, on Flickr Built calipers by matt eaton, on Flickr Finished brembo calipers by matt eaton, on Flickr
Matt could you get your spare rears powder coated once you've swapped the over and send them my way for some £££
I gave mine a good sanding, and cleaning, with electric wire brush, repainted with refurb kit,and new stickers. We will see how it stands up to use.
i use http://www.gandlcoatings.co.uk/ youll have to strip them down for them though. when i got them done and took the pistons out i used engine core plugs to protect the bores, they fit in to the dust seals http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201201253435?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
We cured most iron parts at 200 degrees for 10-15 mins. Aluminium parts (Front Calipers) are porous so we low baked them at 180 degrees for 10mins, then shot the powder on while the part was hot then low baked it for 15/20 mins to cure. Also try not to use bolts/nuts etc to cover up holes like the ones above as once you crack them off it also cracks the powder and is susceptible to water ingress. We used silicone bungs. Plenty of them on eBay. Just search powder coating silicone bungs.
Many thanks for that very useful information. I was wondering how i was going to get my callipers done, was thinking of leaving the pistons in and change all the seals when i got them back, i will have a look for some bungs now.
Sorry to bring up and old thread.......but...lol Matt......did you manage to rebuild the rear calipers ok?
Putting back the handbrake mechanism was a pain as the circlip didn't want to stay in place but other than that is was OK. Still not fitted them yet
Very interested to hear what was the brembo-colorcode you used! I've been meaning to touch-up my calibers, but haven't been able to figure out which color they are..
Useful place if you don't to remove your calipers and fancy something better than hammerite: http://www.brakecaliperspecialists.uk/brake-caliper-painting-kit/ RS 175 Lux
