250 Caliper bolts specs

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by odinson, Jul 30, 2015.

  1. Does anyone know the size, thread and length of the bolts that hold the calipers to the mounts? I want to get some with a smaller head to allow my track wheels to fit.

    Thanks

  2. What size track wheels do you have? 17"?

could easily enough machine a bit off the head tbh, plenty of meat left

  3. 17x8 et38 not sure I want to skim them for the sake of a few £££ may aswell get some

  4. Checked with my local Motorsport mechanic today while I was getting the mid box chop done and he said you don't have much room to machine the bolts. Best off getting high tensile steel hex bolts the same size with a smaller head on them.....now anyone know the specs of the caliper bolt lol

  5. Exactly, this is my plan anyway hahaha

  6. Take the bolt out. Measure the length of the thread and the length of the shank. You can get a tool to measure the thread type for just a few pounds

You also need to measure the bolt diameter, probably 8mm (m8) or 10mm (m10)

Alternatively go to a diy shop and buy 1 of each size nut. Label them so you know what they are and see which winds on to the bolt properly.

Then look at the head of the bolt it should have a number stamped into it probably 10.2 or 10.9 this is it's tensile strength. You want to get a bolt with the same number on it, definetly not lower.

You can normally tell if a bolt is high tensile because it is black in colour (like wheel bolts) rather than zink plated.

  7. That's the plan buddy, I'll take one out and take it to a shop as see what's what
