Hi all, I drive a Mondeo ST Tdci, they are great cars but I fancy something a bit more fun for a while whilst keeping some economy. I know they are rare, with 190 made? but I like the look of them and want to buy one, so what should I be looking out for ? As an example there is one for sale on this forum, http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread....lux-packs-xenons-recaro-buckets-stage-1-remap so picking on that as it's the only one for sale on here, what's good or bad about it ? I love the seats and it's meant to have both packs, how would I tell and what exactly are they? Many thanks, Yodi
I've just HPI'd the car above, and paid extra for the spec check. It mentions the cup pack but no lux pack or F1, what is the lux pack and the f1 bits the car is advertised with and how can I make sure it has them? It is a Lux as one the extras on that pack is the centre arm rest, keyless entry is also part of it. As far as the F1 goes, was there ever a DCI F1? I don't there there was, it was the R26 F1, it's just had a sticker added to the front bumper I think.
Thanks Gavin, so it does have both packs. Are the Recaro seats an option then as I dont see any others for sale with them, or are they an aftermarket add on ?
My wife has one of these, cup packs have anthracite wheels and door mirror caps. Iux packs also have a silver trim on the dash above the glovebox. Great little car, I've got an M3 and when I drive hers I'm still surprised how quick the 175 is...
I bought a 175 RS Lux from here at the start of April. One owner car, 116k with full history and some nice jobs done recently including service and mot that very month. Ultra Blue with black leather. My Lux came with pano roof, cruise control, xenons, leather steering wheel and gaiter stitching to match the seats, silver alloys with body colour mirrors, proximity locks and start, carbasse stereo and six CD changer. Digital AC/climate, silver dash and trim panelling. When I checked on howmanyleft.com, it stated only 12 proper Lux models (3drs) were registered in the UK. I'm impressed with the car. Had the usual megane lock and window issues with water ingress related problems. Scuttle drains were blocked. Apart from that it's been great. I do 70 miles a day, of which about 62 miles are on a motorway. It's currently returning 46mpg. That's properly calculated not what the computer says. The computer says 46.7mpg. Handling is good even with the new cooper tyres on which I'm going to have to change for PS3s soon. I hear the cup suspension is actually more pliable than the standard 175 sport setup. I'd like to try it sometime and switch to those springs and dampers and the opportune moment. Good amount of torque and it feels a strong motor up on the revs too. Better than a vag PD engine that's for sure.
Thanks mate, I have been looking but none for sale and read a few horror stories so have been looking at others cars too, I still like them though
I doubt many if any diesels are better than the mondeo st at this price range. I certainly wouldn't choose the meg over the mondeo for that minimal extra Speed/power/fun.
I paid £3100 for my 2008 car! One owner, sensible mileage, fsh, just serviced, MOTd, recent tyres, recent aircon, recent brembo brakes (even new pins). Can't see me getting as good and fun a Mondeo for the money?
All the meganes for that money have 100+k miles will soon be coming up for a clutch belts hubs ect ect. You got a bargain if yours has less than 80k and is a lux cup. But realistically let's say £4000-5500 I'd take a mondeo st all day long. They are better cars than the megane And not that much slower or less fun. Other rivals are the Toyota auris180, high mileage Leon k1 fr tdi or the astra cdti150 or 888. I had a astra cdti 888 in 2010 and I'd say it was quicker than my 175 is now even with 20ish bhp less and more fun
