250 Broken gearbox mount rear bolt

  1. Had a search of the forum, couldn't find it anywhere. If you can post it again that'd be great

  2. Resurrecting old thread oppose to started new one. Think this may have gone on track yesterday, changed down to third and clunk!!! Vibrations etc but no massive play that I can feel in the box, vibrates a lot from pull off and under load but once moving its ok? Sound like same issue?

  3. Had exactly that a few months back. Thought it was the engine mount... was sheared gearbox mount bolt.

  4. Mines off to Renault on Sat' with odd noises from what I think is the gearbox and/or possibly the clutch, makes some clunking sounds especially in 3rd and when releasing the clutch, aswell as a clunk when gently going on and off the accelerator. Got a bad financial feeling about it! If I get no joy from Renault Aldershot I'll be considering a trip to Diamond Motors, although it's a bit of a trek for me.

  5. horti - Doesnt sound the same as what i had but sounds like it could be the lower mount/dog leg mount

  6. Sounds similar to me horti, micks going to take a look next Friday so I'll let you know. My gearbox mount bolt sheared about a month ago and was replaced. Just wondering if a different mount is on its way out.

  7. My old clio 197 had that problem horti, turned out to be one of the lower arm links was badly worn.

  8. I'll mention these things when I take it in, be interested to hear what Mick says about yours corey, and thanks for your input aswell darkant/Ryan, oh shit I see pound signs racking up!

  9. When mine went the second time I drilled out the remains of the inadequate bolt(couldn't believe the size of that bad design) re drilled it and 're threaded it..
.. think was about 14mm that's about as big as can go for the housing and put a good quality bolt it and have to say it's made a big differance much more presice gear change it feels

  10. Took the car into the renault garage today, bloke told me he couldn't find anything wrong, although admitted that he hadn't been able to check all the mounts, but didn't inspire any confidence when he said he hadn't really seen one of these before!!!! Wanted me to book it in again so they could have another look, but if they couldn't find anything the first time why do they think they would on the second time!!! And then to cap it all, after driving off and parking up at home realised that the bloody donut has done something to the mirrors where they no longer fold in! Think I'm going to take it to Rentec in Portsmouth, heard good things about them. Renault Aldershot won't be seeing me again (well maybe for the odd service, but nothing else). Frustrated,,,,,,

  11. Do you get the rpm jumping a little bit or the stick shakes a bit when off throttle in higher gears?

  12. No, none of that, most of the noise appears to be connected to 3rd gear (the one I do most acceleration in) clunky selection and strange kind of rattley noise when depressing and releasing the clutch, I don't know what the bloody hells going on,,,,,just want it sorted!

  13. Ye take it to a specialist not main dealer with all there cluless mechanics

  14. Sounds like your gearbox m8

  15. Don't say that,,,,, please don't say that!!!! On the side issue, any idea what's happened to the mirrors, all of a sudden not folding in, always worked prior to taking it to the garage today? You're right Glenn, bloody bunch of numbtys!!

  16. Mine was gear box mount in the end. Bolt had snapped

  17. Donut said he'd checked those so hopefully not that, ignore mirror issue, Donut had moved door mirror rocker switch (well, I'm blaming him anyway)

  18. The bolt issue deserves a recall. While at the ring on the weekend 2 250 owners had the rear bolts snap. 1 very unfortunate guy had it fail before but on this occasion it failed the gearbox dropped and cracked, all of the oil escaped. No more gearbox. His friends had to travel from italy to collect his car on a trailer.

  19. It's such a shut design not supprised that fella broke his gearbox cos when it breaks the box drops straight on to subframe.. mines all scuffed up and now a few months later getting a funny noise around gearbox area... Coincidence think NOT

  20. I'm pretty sure he said this was the third time for him (once under warranty). Unfortunately for him happened while on track duty which has caused the total failure.

Im thinking of swapping out my lower stabiliser to at least mitigate some of the torque load

  21. I drilled out my mount and put a bigger reinforced bolt in

    Jimmy Lam likes this.
  22. What is the latest part number for the gearbox mount?

  23. Anyone know this? Is it a different mount from 250 to 265 or just a different bolt?

  24. dont think it really matter has they wont sell the old part

  25. Same happened to me, when mine hit the subframe it caused a hole in gearbox luckily I was at a place where I could get it metal welded before driving it, seem to be having a problem with it now, getting into reverse I have to really force it in and getting a sort of grinding noise when putting it in 6 unless I leave the clutch in for the revs to completely drop any idea what this might be?

  26. Because mine hit sub frame my gearbox broke and currently getting rebuilt, should have it back sat

  27. Just read through this again and still none the wiser, what is the preventative measure as no recall has been issued and a potential hole in a gearbox casing is crazy
1.Fit uprated dogbone mount to reduce engine/box movement
2.Change to newer 265 gearbox mount and bolt
    3.change bolt

  28. theres no recall, it was revised though, so you can no longer get the previous mount. some one here bought a new mount expecting to get same as fitted, but instead got the new one. its not proven that a uprated dogbone mount will prevent it, but it does take alot of movement out of the engine. im on my original mount with uprated dogbone mount, no issues.

  29. How much have people been paying for this work? Or is it an easy DIY?

  30. Seriously thinking of getting mine changed out as a preventative measure...

  31. This.

My car has started developing niggles all of a sudden since I finished paying for the bugger.

  32. G’day guys,

Sorry to bring up old thread, but what are the specs of the factory M10 bolt? I’m going to upgrade mine, but not sure of the thread pitch and length.
