I recently took my 250 in for a four year service last Monday, and they replaced the brake fluid as part of it. I'd had absolutely no issue with my car at this point mechanically. After the service I'd get a message saying 'STOP' in the central console, and 'Brake system fault' in the info panel. It didn't show up immediately, but about 2 days after the service was completed. I took it back, and they topped up the fluid and noted it was low, but couldn't find any leaks anywhere. This weekend, the message came back after the same timeframe. So I gave them a call and said that the same issue had recurred and they needed to take a look at it again. I dropped it off this lunchtime, and they've called back saying they topped it up and have seen the brake fluid decreasing again since the top up, but still can't find the leak so they suspect it's the master brake cylinder has gone. I'm slightly perplexed where the brake fluid is going, especially since it can strip paint, it's certainly not on the floor but after 29,000 miles it seems that this isn't something that should be going after this short amount of time, and immediately after a service? They suggest that a seal went, but I've been told that the brake system is pressurised as part of the brake fluid service. Especially since they are quoting me £400 for the part, let alone the servicing... and they can't even guarantee this is the cause of the issue. And especially since in my honest opinion this is something they have caused. Any advice?
if you cant find any leaks, maybe it's a leaky clutch slave cylinder leaking into the gearbox bellhousing?
This happened to me. Try topping your brake fluid up! Once I did this with mine the problem went away.
After a lot of calling around I managed to get the bill from a £100, from £500... which was a mixed result. Renault Customer care involved and all sorts, by this stage. Renault said they'd offer 50%, and the garage offered 10%.... called the garage, they said we'd offer 20%... so naturally, I said, I'll take that 70%, then made an offer lower than that. They say they'll have to call Renault to check, etc. So they start, get the Master Brake Cylinder out and find that a valve is unclipped (or so says the service report)... reclipped it, and the problem hasn't recurred. I left it there over night for them to keep an eye on it. Offered a sizeable discount on my next service, which happens to be a biggy anyway... so despite a week of faff I'm happy enough.
Renaults great trained mechanics strike again that's a few posts I've seen now about Renault mechanics leaving clips off
Yeah, I'm starting to not really trust dealers. Reminds me I need to give the customer care guy a call back.
Stay away from dealers is my opinion, I worked in a Renault dealer for 7 years and the biggest problem is the management, the techs can be a useless bunch of turds sometimes also but the money you get charged is never worth it. Go find ya self a decent independent specialists
