Brake set up - R26.R discs or drilled?

  1. Hi All,

I'm going to be replacing the standard drilled discs on my 07 225 soon as the fronts are getting a little worn and I have a bearing going in the rear.

I'm looking at either replacing with like for like genuine drilled discs or going for R26R grooved versions, I know brembo HC plains are meant to be good and cost effective but I'd prefer OE and also prefer drilled or grooved discs aesthetically!

Would anyone be able to advise on any pro's/con's of either the drilled or R26R discs? (apart from the price difference of course!)

Also I'd appreciate some thoughts in terms of pad choice, road use with the odd trackday but I'm not the last of the late brakers and generally quite easy on the car, plus they need to work well from cold, my other half uses the car and I don't want to have to explain to her about getting temp in brake pads!!

Thinking Mintex M1144's on the front and Ferodo DS performance on the rear, as both claim to be a slightly upgraded road pad with decent cold bite. I'd appreciate any comments should anyone have experience of either.

I've considered CL RC5+ all round but think this will be totally overkill for my needs, plus I'd be looking at 3 x the cost compared to some of the other options.

  2. I have had the Mintex M1144s and they were good on the rear, but I reckon the car is a bit too heavy for them. They are an excellent choice on lighter cars. I have moved to Ferodo DS2500 on the front and they are brilliant on the road, yet to try them on the track.

  3. +1 on the M1144 pads. Had them on a Clio 172 (light car as above) and they were great. Fantastic initial bite from cold which inspires so much confidence you could really 'drive on the brakes'.
