I've read similar threads on boot issues which appear to be a common issue due to water ingress. Mine has started playing up where by it doesn't open, but then does after much pressing on the key card. Even when I got in a drove off it popped open on its own. is this the lock or the button? how do I get to both to sort out? Note it has been pi**ing down today in manc cheers si
It will most likely be the open button mate. You can prise it carefully out with a screwdriver and then try to dry it out with a little WD40 or similar, but I would recommend just getting a new one. Ads on here will supply - cost me £26odd last year and fixed all my faults. At times the car wouldn't even start due to the ECU thinking the boot was open so in theory it could leave you stranded.
Take a look at the external seal that sits between the boot itself and the lower plastic boot section, this seems to perish/deform and that's where the pesky water gets in causing all the problems.
Thanks guys, Ill give the button some oil as a short term fix and get onto ads then try and do something with the flimsy looking seal. At least it sounds easy to remove the button, i started to think it was a case of removing the inner boot lid card.
Mine would popo open every time i put it in reverse and occasionally just driving away, it turned out to be a loose earth connection on mine, I think it was a loose bolt on the earth near the nearside rear light cluster may be worth checking before spending any money?
I had this same problem, took the lock all apart and manually tested it and it was fine then I checked the switch which was full of water lol, which in turn had corroded the metal connections, new one from ads and job was a good yin
So I've popped the button out and undone it, no signs of corrosion but in taking my button apart a gold piece of metal forming the switch has fallen out. Any ideas how this is constructed
Sorted. Finally got it working after much fiddling. Easy fix tbf....when you know how. Thanks for all help
If you just leave the switch out you wont be able to open the boot, but it should allow you to at least start the engine if you are stranded.
Sorry to rekindle this old thread but mines playing silly b**gers too! (A bit of character I suppose but bloody annoying!) I'm hoping to start with checking the earth's but could someone give me a steer as to where to look? Cheers!!
