After a (very)long string of cars i have settled on owning a Megane 250 RS as a track/work car for the next few years. My previous 2 cars and how they compare to the Meg My 911 i had for 2 years. 200Cell cats 359bhp 300lb/ft I could write an essay on the 911. I'll summarise as a beautiful nightmare. In terms of performance, it was the most enjoyable car at normal road speeds and reasonably quicker on the road compared to the Meg. On the track, at my skill level, they are equally as quick. In truth i think i'll be quicker in the Meg as time goes on. My 335i i had for 11 months - JB4 360BHP 425lb/ft nearly all torque and boost from about 1700rpm .... amazing car, the quickest of the last 3 (Meg, 911, 335) cars on the road, but the slowest on the track. With the JB4 the torque was unnerving in anything but dry conditions. The wife hated driving this more than the Meg ,purely on the power delivery from low down... i could have turned the map off, but where is the fun in that. Creamy smooth engine and reasonable economy but just too heavy. And finally my Meg 250 Currently has: Bluefin map (bought it with it, looking at custom RS Tuner map) Forge Dump Miltek Cat back KW Clubsport AD08r's CL5+ fronts (new standard discs) Yellow Stuff Rears (new standard discs) Planned works; Possibly Hybrid turbo Wheel stud conversion Rear ARB Tow straps - if i can work out how to fit them Possibly a cage or at least a bar for the harnesses 4/6 point harnesses Rear ARB The Megane Cup works brilliantly as a track car and so-so as a road car. It's far harsher than both the KW v2'ed 335 and the Bilstein 911 even in sports mode. But i feel its a sharper tool out of the box than either. So much so the wife refuses to drive it and has had to get out twice due to the harshness. She's normally fine no other car have we had this problem including various track days and Nurburgring laps she has done with me She hasnt been in it since the KW Clubsports... lets see how that goes down I've never really made huge cosmetic changes to any car i own. But i thinking i'll do something different and go with a colour scheme. Maybe Powder blue, Orange or Bronze (Wheels, badges, tow straps, harnesses). So far i have only done Bed and will be at the 'ring next month for a few days. Some parts pics; Some bonus pictures: Meg with my brothers troublesome 182 My other current car
That's a lovely looking 250! Probably wise looking at getting the bluefin removed, the 250s don't like them that much.
Yeah i've read about the AFR issue. Although i wonder when i'd notice issues with lean running of engine. The previous owner had the bluefin on for a fair amount of time and i've had it on for a while. I plan on getting rid but would be interesting to have it R/R(AFR measured) and borescoped. Burns clean, sparks looks in normal condition etc. The map itself feels pretty strong, although seems to lack some torque compared to other mapped 250s
That 911 looks superb! With the meg, sounds like you already have a cracking setup. Suspension/braking wise. Since you're building it for track/work I'd personally go down the 'clubsport' look. Get rid of all the sound deadening, ditch the recaros for some proper lightweight buckets, same with the wheels, remove the airbags, back seats. That'll be a good weight saving and you'll notice it on track. I wouldn't be in a rush for the hybrid and RARB or even the cage unless it was proper track focused. Spend the remaining and on track days. Also get an instructor in the car with you, that'll be the better than any of the above. Just my opinion, good luck with it! (Subscribed)
Thanks!! Back seats come out before track days. To be honest the Hybrid is purely for beating the 135i's, 235i's, TTRS's, and the like on the road childish i know. But it's difficult to swallow the slower in a straight line pill !!! I actually do have buckets in my list, just forgot to list them on here. As well as a replacement steering wheel, which is probably one of the next things i'll do. I hate all Renault wheels, do they design them badly on purpose? Do you know if the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 or 1.3s fit the Megs? 2 things i preach at track days.... Tyres and instruction. I have had a fair few instruction sessions in the 911. Including 3 tutored sessions in the wet(torrential) at Silverstone an amazingly terrifying experience. Plan to do a few tutored sessions in the Meg, probably Snetterton after the 'ring next month Should have paid for the pics but this was in the wet... pics don't do the rain justice But she actually spent more time doing this..
Such an awesome 911! Shame it spent most of its time like that though. I plan on an E92 M3 after we get our house, few years just yet. I've seen a few megs on here run over 300bhp from a stage 1. I kept up with a pal in his 235i not so long ago in my standard meg till around 130mph. Decat, induction, intercooler and a stage 1 map from Paul at RS tuning in Leeds should see you over 300bhp. Saving yourself abit then, just my opinion though. I know Odinson on here had a play with an RS3 and although the RS3 was pulling it wasn't massive, that was when his car was mapped by K-Tec iirc. Good luck with which any route you take, I'm sure they'll both be worth it  @odinson
Any updates? TD pro race 1.3 will fit mate, I plan to get them for mine next year or possibly some wolfrace prolite 2.0 (not the best wheels but can't complain for £430 a set!) wrapped in some dunlop direzza's. 17x9 et45 is the size you want pal
Unfortunately no real Meg updates. I have been extremely busy After Nurburgring i stuck a few stickers on Turbo coolant hoses had to be replaced as they were leaking heavily 1 Puncture sorted 2 New Front tyres.... 245 40 18 as NOBODY had stock of 235 40 18 in AD08r's when i needed them. Still have 235 40 18 on the rear However i bought myself one of these This is what is currently occupy most of my time and money; So the plan is once this is complete, i'll be partially removing the interior on the meg, sticking some Pro Race wheels on, possibly a CAE shifter, Vibra tec dog leg engine mount, probably increase front camber closer to 3 degree, fixed buckets.
All moved in and settled. So restarting the mod schedule Did a couple of Bedford track days in-between the last updates an this. Got rid of the RC5+ - Not up to the task. RC6s on now AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING superior to the Pagid RS29. Downside is; did about 50-60% of the pads in one day and i can , momentarily beat the ABS, and lock the fronts up with about 70ish% brake pressure. Had a brand new Set of 08rs on at the begging of the session, finished with about 50% Tread on the front . Having tried 3 different pad types at the rear, i'm happiest with OEM. So thats what im running now Other thank some extra stickers (8bhp increase at least) i have pulled the rear seats out and stuck some standard pads on the rear. Oh and 'Stage 2' Bluefin map. Which i think is the equivalent of a normal Ktec/RS tuning map power. Booked Silverstone for Feb He's some current pics And my front badge fell off... and i ran over it. £48 to replace..
Nice stuff mate car looks great! You should book bedford for 27th Feb, I nearly booked Silverstone for the end of this month £170 bargain for Silverstone! You uploaded a couple videos on YouTube from Bedford? Think I watched them not sure if it was you or not
Not sure if i have any Bedford videos up. If i do its from a good while back, prob first session i did there. Think I have a busy Feb but might be able to squeeze another track day in , who's running the day as i don't see it on MSVT?
Very similar spec to mine are you not getting rid of the heavy recaros? I sold mine on in favour of lighter seats that hold you in much much better. Rc6 are pretty much the best pads I've used.
Think thats what i want to do next, other than braided lines. What seats did you get and how did you mount the harnesses?
Also i had the Vibra(KTR) dog leg mount fitted, after my engine mount bolt SNAPPED for the SECOND TIME
TTRS/RS3 are very quick when mapped ! Was at GTI international a few years ago and they were doing 0-60 in mid 3 seconds and 1/4 mile in mid 11's !
I have cobra imola pro gt with harnesses mounted using eye bolts to the side mounts and rear seat belt holes.
Decided against buckets at least for now. Keeping the Recaros in but with Harnesses. Awaiting the harnesses Currently to go on Powerflex handling kit - bushings Brake lines Harnesses
Bin the Standard rear pads if your going to be running something like the RC6. Ive ran them and Yellows with various aggressive spec pads and they really don't perform. Im not on RC5's on the rear with some XP8's up front and the braking is so much more balanced. Much better than it was before
I'll give the RC5+, on the rear, a go, but both times i've tried OEM at the rear i prefer the balance. Harness arrived today. Out of FIA date but no intention on racing Planning on getting it in next week at some point.
