  1. As I've had my R26 now for over a year and covered 28k miles ! It hasn't really cost me that much so far BUT ! I have a service next week with a few items being replaced due to wear and tear ! Just wondered if anyone has had a very big bill from running a R26 ? My B5 RS4 is has had some very big bills ! Highest one was £4100 !

  2. Blowing up my Elise's engine was £5500!

  5. I feel lucky, my r26 had a bad garage do the cam belt change & got it rectified for around £500 quid...

  6. I would hate to think how much all that would cost for my Audi !!
I've put aside £1000 for every 12,000 miles I've covered for maintenance ! So far on the R26 I've spent £900 and that was including 4 new tyres !

  7. But I know I'm looking at a bigger bill next service ! off to Spa and the ring next month so has to be in tiptop condition!

  8. I don't want to piss anybody off, but they are horrific cars in terms of costs and reliability, the R26 IMHO.

Mine cost 29p/mile in maintenance compared to 13p/mile for the 172, 2p/mile for the 275 and 0.4p/mile for the wifes Clio dci.

  9. I was warned by many about reliability before I bought my R26 but so far so good ! Maybe I might change my mind next service lol ?

  10. It's always been the same anything that's not run of the mill, costs more to run.

I can remember back in the Eighties, when a spark plug change on a Ferrari, (not sure of the model as it was not mine :tongueout: ), was priced up at between £1100 and £1400 as the plug change required the engine out

With inflation that would be 2965.81 but it did include the cost of the plugs

  11. They're not too bad if you keep on top of things. I spend little and often on preventative things, and make sure she's kept tip top. My biggest bill was £750 for clutch, smf and camshaft oil seal, but that wasn't a massive surprise at 60k miles!

  12. As said its been chip as chips to run compared to my Audi ! I was driving over 20,000 miles a year in y Audi before I got my R26 ! So 250miles per tank full at about £55 on the Audi compared to 350 miles on average with the Meg.

  13. I should think most cars would be cheap to run compared to an RS4!

  14. had my r26 a year and a half now and apart from stuff that I wanted to do nothing has gone wrong, spent a fair bit on a new SMF and clutch, modifing the engine etc but that would not have gone if I did not tune it up, did a front end refresh but again that was just to improve things nothing was wrong. Hopefully things stay the same but had no massive issues so far

  15. 2 slave cylinder failures in 2k miles, cost me 2 trackdays at Spa on top of the cost to sort it:rage:

  16. It's all relative though, depends what you're used to and will put up with

Ferrari ownership... Now that annoys wealthy people, let alone normal peeps

Renaultsport cars are a good compromise for performance without having parts being ludicrously expensive, because of a competitive aftermarket industry

  17. The costs for the 172 and R26 can be directly compared as they were both roughly the same age, driven the same way by the same person only and maintained to the same standard. Granted, the 2 new cars you would expect to have significantly lower running costs which is why I got into a new car - the running costs are very similar to an 6 year old R26!

  18. Had mine 3 months with only 42k one owner
Luckily the following was covered by the independent dealer and warranty company which I have decided to extend

I requested cambelt and water pump change before purchase done at Renault £1100 lighter for the car dealer
    Rear exhaust hanger
    Cv boot
Electric folding wing mirrors £600 fitted
    Starter motor failure £700
Cracked rear lense driver side £80

The following I had carried out by Mark Black fantastic work
    Greased hubs
Engine and gearbox mounts changed due to cabin vibration
    Hub greased and nipples fitted
Creaking steering grease applied no noise now but possible rack in the future
    Gearbox oil change
    Brake fluid change

Cleared blocked drainage at RST when miltek fitted

I think I covered every thing still loving the Meg

  19. Biggest bill I had was when the engine let go at around 47k!
£1200 for a new engine and thought while I was at it id add a sports cat £300ish and smf/ new clutch £600ish plus a few ancillaries etc probably came to around £2500 in total.
Although I do now have a project of rebuilding the old engine that let go!

  20. Just had the R26 serviced, track rod end,Eibach pro lowering springs,KTR air filter, rear caliper, rear brake pads, tracking. Should be good now for the Spa and Nurburgring in two weeks !! Just under £1k so I thought that was pretty reasonable.
Regarding the new Eibach pro springs looks better ! Will have to find out if it improves handling etc
