Having a bit of a quandary guys! My beloved RS250 is now 3yrs old and due an MOT and service with 6700mls on the clock. It's been to the dealers the last couple of years whilst under warranty and not had any problems with them other than they're a little steep for what amounts to an oil change but now she's out of warranty is there anything to be gained from using the dealer? I have a local garage with two guys I know well who I trust with my life, they will do the MOT anyway and I'm wondering if its worth just getting them to change the oil and filter whilst they're on, does a dealer serviced car really carry any more value as a result? What do we think?
I've owned 3 Renault Sports in the last ten years and never used the main dealer, even when they were still under warranty. If your mate owns a garage it's a no brainer. I know some people like to have main dealer stamps in the book but personally I don't think it makes any difference.
I think it's more about having it serviced than having Renault specifically service it. In this day and age all garages has ecu, diagnostic equipment etc. If it's your car and you want to take care of it as long as it's serviced in the intervals as a prospective buyer I wouldnt give a toss if it was done by Renault, as long as it was done. It'll be FRSH or FSH either way its been looked after
If you take it to Renault it will probably be some spotty faced apprentice working on it anyway My local Renault service centre is a f*cking Land Rover garage
Trusted independent every time for me. A regularly serviced and we'll looked after car is all that matters mate.
Thanks guys. I did have it in my head that I would keep it dealer but I stress every time it goes there not sure why, reckon I'll be off to the lads I trust this year
Local guys that you can trust every day of the week, I'm like you Nick and used to get stressed every time it was left with the Evans Halshaw clowns.
Independent all the way, My Megane has never seen the inside of a Renault Dealers since my ownership even when it was still under warranty.
Agreed I think as long as everything is documented, and receipted for service wise is what really matters. If the car has had an owner whos just taken it to any old garage then maybe not... but if all thw work has been done at the same place throughout that owners ownership then it's safe to say it has been looked after
Well I had her at my mates garage yesterday, MOT passed as you'd expect with 6900mls on the clock and oil and filter change with the parts/oil bought discounted from Renault, book stamped so I'm happy It has to be said, I emailed the RS dealership a fortnight ago now for a quote for the MOT and oil change and I've heard nothing! After a week I forwarded the email to the sales guy I've dealt with for both my cars and again nothing! Fare to say its pissed me off really and at the end of the day both cars are keepers for me so I might just put all the servicing work my mates way, as long as I use parts from Renault with receipts etc
