High guys, I’ve recently got my hands on a set of AST 2 ways for my car, Can I please have some feedback on what you would initially would set them up at please ? I mainly use the car for UK track days, I do go to the Nurburgring but have no idea when that will be happening again I understand it’s a fairly personal choice on how people run them and realise it’s a try it and see type thing but some initial settings would be really helpful. Tia
You can find the base set-up at the ast-suspension website: https://ast-suspension.com/tech-talk BEGINNING SETTINGS FRONT: REBOUND = 6 COMPRESSION = 4 REAR: REBOUND = 6 COMPRESSION = 4
I’d never even thought about checking the web site, many thanks, the kit didn’t come with any manuals or anything so I’ll email AST and ask to get these sent to me. Does anybody on here run AST’s ?
Yep, I do. I’m happy to share my settings and what adjustments I make to suit the prevailing conditions. I’ll do that as soon as get to my recording sheet.
So my rebound is always "H"er or "+"er than my bump, as per the 'Beginning Settings' in the manual: Rebound=6 & Bump=4. All settings mentioned start with both Bump & Rebound after turning the adjuster to the full clockwise position. For Rebound this is the most "H" setting, whereas for Bump it is the most "-" setting. On track on the front I start with Rebound at 7 and Bump at 3. On the rear I start with Rebound at 3 and Bump at 7. If I'm getting corner entry understeer I'll increase rear tyre pressure before touching the dampner settings. If the tyre pressure adjustment doesn't help enough then I'll soften the front. If I'm getting corner exit understeer then I'll stiffen the rear along with softening the front. If the rear is too tailly then I soften the rear. If conditions are great on a flat track and I'm feeling confident, then I'll stiffen both front and rear to see if that improves speed.
I found the best way on my 2 way ASTs was to start at the extreme end of adjustment so you can feel and see what it actually does then tweak from there til your happy. Takes a bit of time to get right and you do end up doing a lot of messing about on Trackdays but it's well worth it. Just make sure you keep a record of settings and what it did to the balance/handling
