Anyone went from a 225 to a R26?

  1. I was looking at some car sites yesterday and i found a Glacier white R26, as a R26 is quite rare over here, GW is even more rare!
So i mailed the company about trading my PH1 225 in and what i need to pay in the end. Now my question is, is the R26 worth the extra price? The ph1 225's go for around €7-9.000,- and the GW R26 is advertised for €12.949,-, so i think i'll got to pay an additional €6000,- to get the R26. My ph1 225 is faultless in the year i owned it and really love the drive!
On another note, for that amount of money i also could own a e46 M3 or a mint MK1 FRS...what would you do?

Just buy a diff and put it in your ph1.

That's pretty much the only interesting (and noticeable difference).

  3. I went from a 225 cup to a 175dci to an r26. I struggle to find much of a difference between the 225 cup and the r26.

  4. I went from a 5dr 225 to a Jaguar X type estate then to an R26 a year later. Cost me a fortune in crappy trade in values!

The main difference is the handling in tight fast corners, the 225 scared me a couple of times but the R26 is much less drama - maybe the 5dr 225 is heavier than the 3dr though and handles worse, I'm not sure.

The other difference is the R26 has less equipment, I lost keyless entry/go and auto dimming rear view mirror which is the main thing I miss, such a handy feature cos you can see if it's a police car behind you instead of just being blinded!

Pluses: LSD, Recaros, Liquid yellow paint, bit of exclusivity over the standard 225
minuses - Bit less equipment, costs more £££

Depends what the pluses are worth to you, you won't see many GW R26's so the residuals should be better than your 225 and help recoup some of the money come sale time.

  5. If you love your car and it's been faultless then stick with it, it's a lot of £££ to spend.

    but GWs look soooooo sweet......

  6. Thanks for the replies guys! Still haven't heard from the garage yet about the offer they would make me. My ph1 is really faultless, but i always get the itch for another car after a year of ownership. Eventually i want to have a 250/265, maybe better to save some more money and wait till they come down in price.

  7. Quaife diff is better than doing a r26 box swap I'm told.

  8. Guess i'll better wait for the 250/265 to come down in price

  9. Iv had a trophy, a f1 megane and now I own a GW r26! In terms of performance, this one has had alot of modifications as the others were standard so cant really say but this one breaks necks, not turn them... Its pretty rare to, I have not seen another in my area.

  10. If your 225 has been faultless and you love the drive, I'd definitely stick with it and just add a diff as others have suggested...

Imagine you get the R26 for not an insignificant amount you'd have to pay up, and then you have problems with it. Not worth the risk.

Stick a diff in and then upgrade to 265 when the time comes.

  11. Thanks guys, i'll made the decision to keep her until i saved enough for a 250/265. They're stupidly high priced over here compared to the UK, the cheapest one you can find right now is going for almost €17.000,- !

  12. Sorry to bump an old thread but what are the costs involved in fitting a diff to phase 1 225 . . . ?

  13. Good luck finding one...

Quaife is £615 PLUS fitting... £500 odd

  14. I want one :worried:. My gearbox is solid but would love to put that power down better.

  15. Quaife is only £600 . . . that direct from them?

  16. Just received an email from Quaife, if you send them the box they'll fit it for £325.00 plus VAT (which is for the labour any seals, bearings and gaskets).

  17. Stick with the 225 and pocket the cash. I went from a 225 lux without cup and now have an R26 (with a few cars in between) and they feel pretty similar to me.

  18. Bargain! Whats the labout involved in removing/refitting gear box? Also I can't imagine postage on a gearbox is going to be cheap . . .
