Anyone had a aftermarket actuator problem?

  1. A mate of mine recently bought a MK1 Focus RS, as we both are looking to get around 280-300bhp i started looking at all the parts needed for a stage 2 map. He mentioned that a stronger actuator would be better for the car, but he also said that i should stay away from the ones like Forge makes, because they are made of 2 pieces, the risk exists that it could develop an air leak which causes the turbo to keep building up boost. He bought an aftermarket one for his car made out of 1 piece so without the possibility to exchange springs. On his car he also needed to remove the solenoid, is this also the case on the Megane's?
Can someone with knowledge explain if he's right or wrong? As i see many on here with the actuator from Forge and never heard a bad thing about them until today

  2. Wouldn't an air leak fail to hold the waste gate shut thus losing you boost?

  3. Never heard of any problems with the Forge actuators. I had one fitted to my 225 without any issues.

It's either standard of Forge too. Nobody else makes them for them iirc.

  4. I had a forge actuator on both of my mk1 focus rs's with both running just over 360bhp and never had a problem with them. So go for a forge one as you can buy a sill kit if it does develop an air leak but it is rare mate.

  5. The thing with a 2 piece actuator is that the matching surfaces are CNC machined to ensure a perfect contact patch, it's like putting 2 pieces of glass face to face, they don't rely on an O ring as such so it's very rare they leak, well that's how the Collins ones are designed anyway.

  6. You had 2 FRS's and now a F1? Why? Just out of curiosity

Ok, are these better then the standard ones and needed for stage 2?

  7. Im new to the megane scene bud but if it was me then yes I would fit a forge one

The megane feels a lot more of well built car than an rs plus the handling of the meg is a lot better as where the rs would just torque steer all over the place. Dont get me wrong I miss the power lol

  8. You really cant compare the build quality of a Renault to that of a Ford dude lol (my opinion that is anyway and partly biased due to me being a Ford fanatic as well as having plenty of experience owning and maintaining Renaults)
Megane RS does have the edge over the Ford on handling totally agree on that!

  9. On my friends megane 250, membrane on forge actuator cracked and the car was boosting like mad 2.2 bar  as the ECU could not open up the actuator.

  10. Dont get me wrong mate its not the actual build quality of the car at all its the interior of the rs that felt a little cheap thats all. I would have another in a heart beat as they are great cars and the engines are sound I them. Not like the meg where it has to be forged at 300bhp, the rs would handle 400bhp on standered internals
I just fancied a change and I really like the meg as the grip levels are so much better lol

  11. See this is what i meant, but i guess there isn't any other option for our cars then the Forge ones is there?
