R26 Another victim to blocked scuttle drains

Discussion in 'Exterior & Bodywork' started by rTEM, May 6, 2015.

  1. When washing/cleaning my car on monday, noticed dampens in the small pocket at passenger side, by the look of it must have been damp for some time, after inspecting scuttle drains both where blocked, drivers side was really hard to unblock beside usual dirt it had a square peace of rubber stuck in, don't know where that came from, well drains unblocked so started stripping the interior, not hard to do, today i will inspect the ac drain, if weather in Manchester will be nice on me, so people if u have same problem, don't be afraid and get it done, its really easy and i am not a mechanic, i am driving to work with just drivers seat in the car, r26r experience, well almost:wink: 285142baa0428d96db6a7589b34a73e1.jpg 720174a30cb9a6cdf8555dafdc0b640e.jpg

fair play mate - thats stripped!!

  3. Air con under tray and drain clear, foam is drying, will wait for moldex smell to clear before putting things back, 1bace3f30efaa116c3a7fd0989ee14cd.jpg looks kike this now

  4. Where is this part?

I had the exact same problem. Taking the Mrs to hospital, went through a roundabout and heard a slosh/splash and water running down the back of the dash.

Car got her to hospital and then delivered us home safe without any electrical problems.

I immediately suspected scuttle drains and they were brimmed with crap. The drivers side had to be removed to get it properly clear.

The only sign of water was in the passenger pocket under the carpet mat. It was hardly noticeable but I suspected if it was going to be damp it would be in there and after pushing down on the carpet I could feel it coming through.

What's the deal with the aircon tray? Does it leak?

  5. There is a guide on megansport.net and the lad making the guide had the air con drain blocked the tray is under the aircon, i can take picture if u want

  6. It will leak if its blocked

  7. Yes please.

Just checked and my little underfloor passenger pocket is still damp after a week

  8. Just found and read that guide. Quite useful

  9. It wont evaporate, the carpet is rubberized from under side, i bet the foam is soaking wet, take out plastic trims on passenger side and peel open the carpet, so u see the extent of damage, here is a picture of the ac tray from passenger side, two screws from down side holding it, disconnect the 90 degree bent plastic pipe and u will see if there is water inside, out your finger in, if water drain is blocked, which is in the middle of the tray, 9b87d78d0bcd42a55fb53543bad205c7.jpg

  10. Thanks!
Drivers bone dry. Passenger one was wet but only in the lowest point where the compartment is. Have removed this section to dry in the house.

Have left the carpet in place but rolled back in area that is damp.

Looks like I'll be running around at 22degrees heat for a bit and the windows down every once in a while.

Think I caught it before it spread too far. No need to remove anything else. I got my small hands right back under the seat and foam, removed some bits and bobs and am confident I've isolated the wet area.

Will inspect the AC but as it's hardly ever on I suspect the water is from the blocked scuttle which is now clear.

  11. I had a look at mine yesterday, one is clear the other doesn't seem to drain away, i got a bit of wire and managed to push it all the way through so no blockage, but it still doesn't drain away, what the feck is going on there ?

  12. I could get a cycle brake cable down the one drain and out the bottom of the car. Yet mine wouldn't drain that side either.

I had to remove the drain pipe completely and clean it in the sink. It was merely a build up of silt that compacted into a hard bung preventing the passing of water.

  13. I think the wire is going trough the blockage but not pushing it out, and when u pull it out the blockage is sealing the drain again

  14. Exactly.

    Get involved with it !

Has anyone got a link to a good guide to clear it?

  16. just poured a bottle of mr muscle drain cleaner down it, that should do the the trick without having to feck about removing it, looks a pain in the arse to get it out.

  17. Getting it back in is the pain in the arse. It snakes around the heat shield and has to be specifically located around so solid piping to suits it's shape. I had to take the wheel off and get it jacked up and worked from the bottom to get it back in place. Connected a brake cable to it and ran the route with that first then pulled it down.

I hope Mr Muscle sorts it for you.

I had serous knuckle rash afterwards.

  18. ended up taking it out, wasn't too bad to do, was filled with shit, bit fiddly to get back in, i put it back from the top and wiggled it a bit, drains lovely now.

  19. Good stuff. Do you have aircon?

  20. Yes, it was a bit of a wrestle but put some wd40 on the outer skin and with a bit of patience it went back in

  21. Try one of those drain snakes from pound shops. They work the blockages right out.
