Another Nurburgring Megane

Discussion in 'New to the Club? Why not introduce yourself?' started by Pflanzgarten, Jul 19, 2023.

  1. Hi all!

Not sure how this happened, but I was offered a very low mileage 2016 Megane 3RS.

It was a rather naked spec'd Cup-S, which I have just exported over to Germany (I do mainly live in the South East).

Very low mileage (sub 15k miles), very good condition and a good previous one-hand ownership convinced me to pull the trigger.

The car will be living (and registered) nearby Nurburgring and will be on German plates.

Although a UK registration has some advantages (mainly the dreaded German TUV), there are a few reasons, specific to my situation, why it will be on German plates.

Currently a full cage is installed, new suspension fitted, new seats are there already too.

Power wise it will remain standard with a few cooling modifications and longevity improvements.

I actually got here because I'm looking into some airbag related solutions to avoid the orange lights bugging me.

Anyway, I thought it would be polite to give a quick intro and I'm looking forward to participate in some discussions!

  2. Airbag light can be sorted over here by various specialists.
Not too sure of many places over in Germany would do it, but perhaps Reader given the number they built over the years.

I guess the perks of being German registered is having proper insurance.

  3. Yeah, I spoken to the usual Renault suspects over in Germany, near Nürburgring.

Sadly they all only offer solutions with resistors in place, which does work, but is a bit of a bodge in my eyes.

German insurance is once thing, and we did end up buying a place in the area two years ago.

I do race a fair bit in the area and so I can keep my race gear in Germany to avoid all carnet related trouble.

I do work in the legal field and can't really be caught with half legal insurance issues on TF, or not declaring my temporary exports correctly

I did post on an older thread where a user said he could do it with software, which I'd have thought would be DT4.

  4. Oh, and to add:
The car will be build to VT2 specs (plus a little bit of interior left), just in case...

  5. You’re very fortunate. A stunning place to live for sure!
The insurance situation for non-German nationals really does scare me and for that reason I won’t do TF.

Mine were turned off when I took the car for a remap. I know for certain they can be turned off using Renault Clip.

  6. Yes, we (my better half and I) were over almost two years ago. Saw a sad looking house with huge potential. Found out it was for sale (that part of Germany is also very cheap) and bought it. This is the first season we can make use of it.

Most of the time we are on UK shores though (and haring the fact that Eurotunnel got so much more expensive).

it can be done via Clip, or also DT4. But even following the instructions I received and found online it still keeps showing the airbag error (in the multifunction display as well as the orange LED)

Insurance is a risk factor. And in my line of work, I'd probably end up loosing my earnings, if I were ever to get caught in this, so just not worth the risk (and a good excuse for a holiday home that enables Ring laps, track days and some decent mountain biking)
