aftermarket reversing camera (mk3 megane imusic estate) and it shut off when I turn on the headlight

  1. Hello, new to the forum, but was on a number of forums back in the US before. We just moved to the UK (wife British) and we got a good deal on a 2011 megane estate imusic 1.5 dci.

The first thing I did was order a reversing camera with a monitor that clips on the rear view mirror. I've installed several of these for family and friends, and never had any real issues until this car.

Basically, the camera turns off as soon as I turn the headlights on. It's wired with an add a circuit to a 12v cigarette lighter and relay.

Here is the way I got to that result.

    1. Installed it with only the reverse light powering the monitor and the camera (worked, but stopped when I turned the car on... Intermittently).
    2. I thought it was a voltage issue, so I tapped into the cigarette lighter (add a circuit fuse) and installed a relay using the reverse light as a switch.
    3. Worked for a while. I thought it was good until I went to the store tonight. Started the car, put it in reverse (monitor powered up), and turned on the headlights as it was dark. At that moment the camera shut off.
    4. Turned off the headlights, and the camera was back on.
    5. I've wired it without the relay just using the reverse light, and it's the same. Shuts off when I turn the head lights on. (Wired it back with the relay (Overkill but doing it that way enables me to have it all fused)

I'm lost for solutions. I've tried tapping into a number of fuses with no luck.

Is there a fuse specifically that wouldn't be impacted by this?

None of this makes any sense to me.

I have tried turning up the brightness of the interior lights to see if it was a dimmer issue with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I can post pictures of anyone needs them tomorrow. Thank you
