R26 Aerial antenna removal....SOLVED.

  1. I'm struggling to remove this manky bee sting aerial from my R26 - it's just spinning.

I presume that there's a steel/brass threaded insert bonded into the base that's now just spinning with the antenna.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so how did you overcome it?

I've tried putting upward pressure on it whilst turning....no joy.

I've removed the base to see if I could hold anything from underneath but obviously..... no joy.

I did clean around the base though so not all lost ha ha.

Any ideas welcome........apart from "buy a new base" because I'm not a quitter.........yet

  2. If the insert is spinning in the base, then it's pretty much knackered ins't it?

Normally the aerial easily unscrews from the base, from the line about an inch up from the roof.

  3. I'm starting to think so, just clutching at straws really.

When it stops raining I'll have another look.

I think my Clio might have to offer up a donation!

  8. Before scrapping the old aerial I thought I'd take it to bits.

I soon realised I could have saved myself some time by just swapping the tops over. This would have saved the ballache of a job of removing the wiring!

If anyone ever needs to do this -
Pop off the top section of the boot seal, remove the 2 head liner clips (press the tab on the top of them to release), squeeze your hand in and undo the aerial base using a 22mm socket, lift the aerial base off the roof (you may need to pull some of the wire up to give you enough slack), undo the 2 small screws to split the aerial base, swap with your new top section and Bob's your uncle, refit.

If you choose to swap the whole thing like I did, there's a plug behind the offside c-pillar trim, you have to pull it away from the pillar enough to get your hand in, I also removed the trim below that, where the parcel shelf sits. This give you just enough space to undo the plug. There's also another plug close to the aerial base but that's easy enough to get to.

If I was to do it again, I'd just swap the tops over.

It was dark by the time I finished so I didn't get a pic of it on the car, I'll do that tomorrow.

    I hope this helps.
