250 ABS Pump Fault

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by alexrobinson202, Sep 24, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

I've had my ABS light on my 250 lit up for a few days, and today got it plugged in and the code read.

It's DTC2040, which means 'pump motor control circuit' problem.

Has anyone else experienced issues with the ABS unit on a 250?

    Doesn't sound like good news!

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers
    Alex

They're not common for pumps Alex so I'd honestly say seek a second opinion. That code means nothing to me so Deffo try some dealer level equipment.

  3. Ok, cheers Mick - I'll take it to a specialist and see what they make of it. It may just be that it's a wheel speed sensor or something. Are they a more common fault?

It depends on the accuracy of that code/description really. Until you can get a DF code I can't really say

  5. Checked levels?

  6. Yeah levels seem fine. Interestingly when you clear the code it comes back straight on ignition start, i.e. without any brake pressure - not sure the significance of this, but it seems like an electrical / sensor problem is more likely?

If it's a genuine "pump control" fault it's more likely to be a multiplex issue

  8. What do you mean by a multiplex issue?

CAN Bus... Google will help but I can't even begin to explain how it works here and now as I'm at work and it's "race car" prep week for two vehicles so mental.

  10. its clever shit! twisted pairs with different voltage iirc

  11. Ok, I know about CAN Bus just didn't know this was the same thing as multiplex. Thanks for the advice!

Think of each system or controller as a standalone computer. They are all linked via a network which allows them to talk to one another as well as receive commands to start working and report back what they are doing to the main hub (UCH).

If the data (in this case multiplexed frame information) isn't being transmitted or received then one or more systems is gonna throw its tits out.

This is why I said seek a second opinion before you replace the ABS module on the back of a generic/non Renault code as its most likely wrong.

Understand how it all works and you'll be able to see and understand what isn't working then fix the bugger. Spend a little money and prove a fault

  13. Car is now with Ktec to investigate this further, and it's all pointing to the ABS pump itself - has anyone else heard of such a failure?

  14. I currently have similar problem.
Car says braking failure - check ABS - check ESP.
ABS is not working.. This service and ABS light isn't present always. It is on few days and then goes off.
And spirited driving turns it on again..or humidity..can't really keep track.
Replaced braking pads and braking fluid.
The service claims ABS module is gone..around 1000 EUR for the part + labour. You need to dismantle half of the cars front end to access this little bastard..

    Any info!?

  15. Sounds a right mare then, I think once these cars start getting older it might become a common thing, I really hate working on newer cars, older cars are so much easier to diagnose and fault find, my experience on newer cars is to check the correct voltages on any outputs before replacing any parts, check for damp or corroded connections and all earths

  16. I'm afraid that's the same messages I got. I had the discs, pads, wheel speed sensors, brake pedal switch all checked and were fine. Once connected to Renault Clip it was clear the pump was faulty, so unfortunately no option but to replace!

And yes, the part isn't cheap and its a long job - air con pipes out among other things!

  17. So, this ABS module is in fact ABS pump?
    I found some on ebay...around 300,00 EUR.
In fact, the only thing that bothers me is warning light.
When I drive slowly i do not need ESP or ABS.
When I step on it I turn everything OFF anyhow...
I'll fix the warning light with a bit of black duct tape..

  18. yes, the module and pump are together. maybe your fix is the way to go! thankfully warranty covered mine!

  19. I have ordered new pump, hopefully it will be replaced within week or two.
If the warning light goes off..great..will let you know!

  20. Good luck!

  21. Replaced ABS pump.
No improvement, after the system was reset, the service light was gone.
As soon as the speed exceeds 30 km/h the light goes back on.
Error code is 40207129 - unspecified braking failure.
Have been investigating further and apparently some problems of this kind happened to RS250.
Guys also replaced ABS module with o success.
I will try to replace my car battery today and to reset the system once more.
If something good happens I will let you know.

  22. Battery replaced.
    No improvement.

  23. Vladimir any more info on this problem at all ?

  24. His last post on this was a year ago buddy, and he's not been on here since August '15 so I don't think you'll get an answer.

Maybe start a new thread if you're having problems.
