I bought my modified LY R26 a few months ago. Unfortunately for me the previous owner decided not to tell that the fuel gauge doesn't read true due to the 630cc injectors it has fitted, and well, I guess you can imagine what happened to me.... Now searching the net I see that quite a few years ago only Paul at RS Tuning had sussed out how to calibrate the fuel gauge to read true with different injectors. Is this still the case, or can most tuners do this now? Thanks
Mines fine? Mapped by engine dynamics. I can't see how fitting bigger injectors would throw the fuel guage out and it's done by resistance in the tank with the float arm
Here's a couple of points from the RS Tuning website: "Injector scaling and fuel gauge/consumption for ANY injector size with or without fuel return" "Don’t spend weeks or months on end going back to your tuner for map tweaks when your fuel gauge doesn’t work or the ECU has learnt a fuel trim, do it once and do it right!" Page here: https://www.rstuning.co.uk/shop/megane-225-r26-custom-remap/
Another from here: http://www.meganesport.net/community/archive/index.php/t-47439.html "david h 30-03-2011, 21:49:30 So the fuel gauge is now reading right but the MPG etc ...... is still a bit out? RS-Tuning 30-03-2011, 22:06:57 Fuel gauge and mpg should be all ok now!"
For reference my car had its 630cc injectors fitted back in 2014 and was remapped to suit at the same time. Injectors were supplied mapped in by K-Tec Seems like this could be an old problem. @matt e does your fuel consumption and range read correctly on the dash display?
Over 1/4 of a tank and iirc 100ish mile range. Had definitely ran the tank dry, my mate came to the rescue with a 5l jerry can and it started straight away and took another 55l to brim it
Yeah common problem most specialists can do it properly now though. Its down to the shape of the fuel tank and the ecu relying on calculations once its under half a tank as the float is no longer accurate IIRC Sent from my FRD-L09 using Tapatalk
Thanks, thought it must have been an old problem as all the treads relating to it are from a good few years ago. 99% certain I'll be going to RS Tuning to get the map checked and tweaked anyways but it's always good to know I've got other options.
The fuel gauge measures fuel used (in theory) rather than the using the sender in the tank, so with 630's fitted you use more fuel per ms of injection compared to the factory injectors so the fuel runs out quicker than the gauge thinks. It uses the sender in the tank when you fill up to reset the gauge. Quite common with 630's that haven't been mapped properly, as mentioned most decent places can set the fuel calibration map up without issue, including ourselves
