So my 2015 Trophy is due a belt replacement because of the 6 years interval but it has only done 17000 miles. It now only does about 100 miles per year if it's lucky as I have other cars to use, so it's in the garage, but I do want to keep it and have no plans to sell . Anyway, I'm mulling over if I should get the pump and dephaser renewed along with the belt kit. I will be getting all genuine parts fitted. The reason I'm in doubt is simply because of low mileage and the pump and dephaser don't deteriorate with age really like the belt. I don't want to disturb them unnecessarily as the engine is so quiet and faultless. What would you do ?
In my opinion, if you ever decided to sell and were asking good money for a very low mileage trophy in a few years, I’d want it to have had everything done. Even if it does less than 1000 miles in the next 6 years, I’d want it to be done for a second time too. It’s £320 for the full kit, including water pump and dephaser, then around £250-300 labour. The water pump and dephaser is only about £150 more for parts than without them, it won’t be anymore for labour really. Is it really worth not doing them for the sake of £150 or so, on a circa £20k car ? In my opinion, definitely not. I do generally understand why some people wouldn’t though, I changed everything on my 275 at 32k miles before I sold it and everything that was taken off, looked as new as the parts going on. I’m just a firm believer that if a low mileage car, commanding a premium has ‘Full History’ that means everything is always done.
I'd probably do them this time. But I would question it next time in 6 years if its only done 1k more.
Haha. By 12 years it will have bottomed out and be bouncing back. Although with covid prices the way they are that may havd happened already.
It’s a no brainier, do the water pump and dephaser at the same time as the belt change, Ktec do an all in one price for £499 iirc using genuine parts
I reckon the dephaser will be ok at that mileage but at a minimum would change the water pump, as sods law it will start leaking at some point with new belt/retension, and then its all off again to renew.
