TBH even I am thinking of selling my RS265 which I paid cash for and just leasing this bad boy! Not sure of the spec of them as the site is hilariously vague (check out standard items!) That said, over 2 years my car will not depreciate £7000, £5000 at the most IMO.
That's not a catch - it's a positive - give it back when it's knackered! Very good deal indeed, if they come through with it.
But you're paying for the privilege of driving a car? I've never understood that? It's like renting - putting money into something which isn't and willl never be yours (nothing against renting, just a comparison i can think of )
This has been covered a million times but yes it is like renting. You give them money and they let you have the sole use of a brand new car that you have spec'd. If you buy it outright for instance instead, you still lose a load of money in depreciation. I anally worked the numbers out, and honestly it's very nearly the same or slightly cheaper for me to run a new Trophy for 4 years than a run a 6 year old R26 that kept breaking for 4 years, ALL things considered. Doesn't work for everybody I know, but I'm surprised more people don't do tbh.
when the 250 cup back in 2010. The pcp deals were £1000 deposit £200/month for the cup. I took it out and there was no catch involved
But you can't do anything engine or looks wise to the car? Or can modify and put it back? And there must be a massive buyout payment at the end if you decide to keep it?
And after looking at the options list I wouldn't be paying what they say. I'd prefer a used specced up car that was mine and I could do what I want with. I can see £5Ks worth of options if like there!
No you can't do anything with it like like. Has to be returned it appropriate condition for the mileage. You could risk a remap and put it back hoping they won't check possibly. There is a balloon payment at the end yes, if you want to keep it. This may actually be less than the car is worth though, so you could be in profit by buying and selling on.
Yeah, cup chassis, recaros, acrapović, and liquid yellow isn't standard so you're pushing on towards £30k which won't be 250ish a month! That's without nav and auto lights etc!
Yes, well spotted, so no keeping the car afterwards. Also as said above, Its the more basic of the two models and if you are used to lots of creature comforts the price will go up a chunk, although unsure how much exactly.
I often wonder if I'd have been better off doing this rather than buying mine. I did get a good discount, paid £19700 brand new in June for a RS265 specced up to £29300. Paying £245 per month on a 4 year loan. Obviously own outright at the end. Would a lease deal like this work out better?
Sounds like yours will have a balloon payment at the end though. This lease is only good if you don't do over 10k a year, and only want to have it for two years. Also don't mind having no spec added.
I got my R26 as a direct result of the previous owner getting in on that Golf R mega deal last year at £180 PM + down payment. He bought the R26 from new and had no desire to sell it, he even kept the thing a good 6 months into his golf R ownership before letting it go. Generally I don't think leasing is that great but every now and then really fantastic deals come up which can work out better than buying or running an older car. Really comes down to if one is comfortable with the car spec and the idea of not modifying it. My Golf R mate for example got his in base lease spec and guards red colour as all the other colours I believe were cost options. He did well as he got his 4 months earlier than another mate who ordered his in white.
I put £9000 down deposit/trade in so there's no balloon payment at the end. Just a straight up bank loan. I'm just curious as to whether leasing would have worked out better.
It depends on the difference between what you paid for the car and what you sell it/px it for, compared against the total cost of a lease package. Sounds like you got a huge discount so it'll probably work out cheaper than a lease, but it's not always the case. I like the idea of owning my cars, but if it's not a big deal then leasing brand new cars every few years for a fixed price with no repair bills is pretty much as hassle free as it gets.
