Recently I've been considering a new motor, had the R26 for nearly 3 yrs and altho i stil love it, fancy soemthing new. See loads on AT altho they all have cloth seats or don't have cup chassis. Recaro option seem to be very rare for some reason. How does the 265 fair reliability wise- what are the weak points and main niggles? Don't think I could cope with another car that needs taking apart to Spray wd40 in the window reg!
Mine is two years old and to date, touch wood & all that, I haven't really had an issue. I would be looking at the 250s and then want to know if any long term issues still existed or were rectified in the 265. I have a rear light that gets some condensation in the cold when I jet wash it, last a hour or so and then is gone. Had a recent front light that did the same after a down pour, that lasted 3 to 4 four days & Renault refused to do anything about it claiming it's documented in the hand book. That's another story though. General the car seems sound in my opinion though regards,
Had my 250 for nearly 5 years and no real issues to report. It did about 6 trackdays in the first 2 years of it's life and just road use since. Aside from shredding tyres, it's been a very cheap car to run. My OBD screen did die after two months, but was replaced on warranty (and I've never heard of anyone having anything similar - just one of those things!). Even a year on from having a Twingo drive straight into the side of the car it's still fine.
I don't feel I'd get the most out of the car in such a short amount of time! I've had the Caterham for 3 years, and my lap times on my closest circuit (Llandow) are 3 seconds faster than last year! (combination of really knowing the car and a few tweaks). Keeping a car for a bit longer lets you get to know it properly as far as I'm concerned. I'd quite fancy a 996 Turbo though....
Probably just an itch I get then.. The 250 is the first car I've not got bored of (had it 14 months), but something else has come up which I couldn't pass up and I've been paying over the odds for the Meg since I got it
i keep looking at the 265 however wonder if the 250 Cup is just as good ? I quite like the recaros so would probably try and go down that route, I pointed out to the dealer about there 265 Trophy and the rear lenses fogging up
The 265 is essentially the same car with a few cosmetic tweaks. Apart from the small power increase, the only thing that really differs is the way the sport button works. On the 265 it drops your power to 250hp in standard mode, and 265hp in sport (along with the throttle, TC and map changes). The 250 always has 250 HP with the sport button just adjusting the way the map works and the throttle/TC settings. It feels like a different car in the 250 when you press the button, so I guess it would be a little more noticeable in the 265. And yeah... I think the rear lenses fog up on all of them
I let the car get up to temp and then have it in Sport permanently. In normal mode it feels dull and lethargic now
Ive had 2, (one from new) so 5 years ownership. Tensioner rattle (requiring new cam belt etc) Headlight condensation, aircon condenser failure
Yeah mine's always in sport after the first 5/10 minutes. Unless I'm stuck in stop/start traffic, then I'm happier to use the less jumpy throttle in normal mode.
good to hear the sport button has a noticeable effect, ive tried it on other cars and other than making it a bit noisier didn't feel any faster. does the exhaust pop and burble in sport mode, similar to the akra on the 275
I canlive with a bit of condensation in the lights and I would hope Reno replace the tensioners and AC condenser under warranty. I remember reading someone's hubs needed replacing after 4k which is ridiculous.
Yeah it will pop on downshifts once warmed up. I've not heard the new exhaust in person so can't really compare.
yep it does, but I'd advise getting an aftermarket exhaust on it just to give it more depth. Also makes the cracks a lot more noticeable
No problems with mine in last year and a half sport button changes the car on the 265, more boost so more urgent, more sharp and more pops and bangs
I guess its it's time to ring renault manchester andbook an extendd drive to see what the fuss is about.
