Hi guys, Just after a bit of advice really, i'm currently toying with the idea of fitting a 250 turbo as i have seen very good gains from other people with them. I was just wandering though if its fitted without a specific map (only a general stage 1) will it be ok? As i've seen on various traders sites that you can fit a hybrid with no map and it will be fine and still gain you some power with some traders quoted 20bhp. So basically will it be safe with a stage 1 map for a standard turbo while i play around, and gradually mod the engine (Hopefully fully forged but possibly only rods) will most likely be running like this for approx 6 months to a year before its fully modded and ready for its final map. I'd assume the ECU would limit boost, not make it run lean etc etc. Any input would be gratefull! Thanks guys
I'm running a hybrid turbo at moment without a map. It's safe as long as you take it easy and I've only gone above 4k rpm a few times. No point in doing it the way you suggest as you won't be able to drive it properly until mapped. Forge the engine and fit the hybrid turbo at the same time then map it once engine is run in.
As Tim alluded to. Almost no point in fitting a 250 turbo if you are going to be forging the lump. The 250 will flow around 325bhp max. The so called hybrid will do a lot more. Better still , get a manifold and 3076 turbo and go for broke ..
250 turbo is a good upgrade if you don't want to go forged and stay below 320/300 and possibly the cheapest option to get over 300bhp?
Thanks for the responses peeps, has made me think about my plans a little. TBH I was just looking to break the magic 300 not make a mad straight line warrior. I was thinking rods for reliabilty - however if thats not really necassary it will be a damn site cheaper for me and saves my ear from the wifes nagging! Sorry andybond i know i've asked you before as i saw you had 31Xbhp in the other thread but whats your spec again, is it basically:- 250 turbo 630 injectors exhaust/induction kit I wouldnt want to decat my car, my last one was a bit of hassle so i was thinking possibly a sports cat with the above
Have you got a 2.75 or 3" exhaust? Also are you not worried about the engine with 320lbft? Or you just hopeing for the best?
It was mapped to avoid the huge torque curve at low revs . It makes peak torque quite late on. I put the graph on turboRenault.co.uk on my thread.
Found the thread although i can't see the graph as the site won't / hasn't sent me a confirmation email!
You want to see the welding ! Its weld porn. Also its a pure 3 inch system. No pinch points at all. Flows extremely well , and sounds lush.
I haven't heard one thats on the original cat. Heard yours, your right it does sound nice. Im fitting my decat if it dont rain too much this weekend so hoping my ktec system sounds similar.
I'm expecting it to be a pain from what I've read. Pretty handy with the spanners though so hopefully it won't put up too much of a fight.
