Any of you guys had issues with your car pulling to the left under braking ? I had new genuine discs, and rc5+ pads fitted with new ATE fluid about 2 months ago and now I swear it pulls the car to the left under heavy braking. What could this be down to ? I keep thinking it's just the camber of the road but I still think something is wrong as I never noticed it before.. It passed an MOT 2 weeks ago with no advisories.. Any ideas ?? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I notice it on cambered roads a lot, like dual carriageways if you're in the right hand lane and the road has a strong camber to it the car pulls a bit.
Mine does this quite bad, started to get worse when I was at the Ring, took it to Raeder and they stuck it on the lifts to check it everything was fine bar a drop link that has a fair bit of play in it which is causing it. Doing a full front end refresh anyway so hopefully it will sort it
I had pulling little to the right, and after changing out right side hub lower ball joint, its almost as gone now This ball joint was really warn, it even caused my steering wheel to be on the left a little.
I'm also wondering if it could be the rear brakes at all ? Perhaps one not working quite as well under heavy braking causing the rear to pitch one way slightly more ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
+1 for lower ball joint. Jack the front wheel and give it a wobble like you would to check a wheel bearing. If its loose look behind the wheel as you wobble it. Your looking for the pivot at the bottom of the hub showing any movement. Check also for even break pad ware. This should indicate a break problem Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
Just in the interest of the topic without diverting it too much can someone confirm how you physically identify a worn bottom ball joint? Say you have the wheels off, would you feel movement on a horizontal plain (the same as the steering) or in the vertical?
Federal 595-rsr Neil. Fronts are getting low and will need replacing soon but tread wear is even. I had it up on a 4 post ramp yesterday, jacked it up and had a look underneath, checked for play at 9/3 oclock and 12/6 oclock angles - nothing. All seems tight. Got a long bar in between a few parts and gave it a bit of pressure whilst watching the ball joints/ track rod ends etc and there was basically no movement. The rear brakes wear replaced about 8 months ago, the fronts were done less than 2 months ago.
I run NS2-Rs with PFC pads. It's very easy to get the car to pull sideway very slightly under hard braking, usually left because of camber. This could be due to the very level of tyre grip and pad friction, which will exacerbate slight and normal differential between the two side that would go unnoticed on more supple road sidewalls. One trick is to apply a bell shape curve braking force as it gives the rear a chance to settle and may help.
Whack it on a right hand cambered bit of road and see if it pulls to the right, ie a balanced issue down to tyres.
I assume those federal are fairly "sporty" tyres With the Michelin cup 2s I was getting lots of torque pull as the boost came in, and generally lots more tug at the wheel on the road With the PS4s it's far less noticeable No idea what the geo is on mine, having that changed fairly soon, but it's a fairly wide tracked car, fwd, and sticking some more track orientated tyres on will probably see any wear become exacerbated during heavy acceleration or deceleration If in doubt chuck it at a garage, but unless it's so bad it's going to yank you off the road, it doesn't sound atypical of what I've experienced in FWD cars
Yes Neil the RSR is a semi-slick. What geo changes are you having ? Only toe is adjustable so I assume you're after more camber using AST hardware ?
Hmmm, since there seems to be a suggestion this started happening after a fair bit of brake mods, how are the calipers? Sticky piston () maybe? Or maybe pads not sliding correctly on the pins?
I'm going to try and get the car on some rollers to test the brakes out soon. I think it must simply be down to the camber in the road..
Like I say, try hard braking on right hand cambered roads, see if it also pulls to the right. Simple, effective test.
Yeah I will give it a try tonight and report back. Now just to find a road with some right camber !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
AST hardware? I'm having intrax 1K2s fitted, so will get the geo setup for the ring trip in September. RSR use them on the ring so will be getting some input from Ron
