250 Cup wheels – what type of black?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Space Cadet, Dec 12, 2016.

  1. I know this may sound a dumb question but what type black are they as standard?

I’ve only just bought the car 2nd hand and I’m having the wheels refurbished later this week, I think the fronts have been previously poorly done with spray-paint rather than powder-coated and the rears have lost their shine regardless.

So I just want to know please did they come originally as gloss-black, or were they satin-black as per the Clio 200 Speedlines etc??

    Thanks!

  2. The standard wheels are Satin Black.

Somewhere inbetween matte and gloss black basically

  3. I looked at this ages ago. The exact colour of the 18" wheels is - Ixell Paint code 205-337. Needs to be mixed as its not off the shelf aerosol jobby.

  4. Thanks guys – much appreciated.

I would’ve assumed they were originally gloss but had lost their shine over the last 5 years.

Is 205-337 far off a ‘standard’ satin or is it worth asking for this specific colour??

  5. I've just had 2 of my wheels refurbished, and they seem to match the wheels that are original.

I just asked for Satin Black but I haven't washed my car for ages so i haven't been able to compare them properly yet.

  6. it depends how anal you want to be. This is the exact colour renault used from factory but if you are happy with a general satin black then thats up to you.

  7. Before I bought the car the previous owner had already told me the wheels would need a refurb so I had already started thinking about what colour or shade to have them done, I had coincidentally already thought satin-black would look good against the gloss-black paintwork and had just assumed the wheels were gloss to begin with but had lost their shine over the years.

The wheel refurbishers didn’t recognise that paint-code and said satin-black powder-coat is just a universal shade and they just have that one shade, apparently though what they have will match the centre-caps perfectly so I’m comfortable with it not perhaps being the exact code as I would’ve gone for satin regardless.

  8. You'll be happy with a generic satin black. Because it's a shade rather than a colour, then the difference will be near impossible to spot vs original satin.
Btw, the Halfrauds satin black spray paint also happens to be a perfect match but hopefully you won't need it!

  9. Thanks Nick, I’m sure I will be because as mentioned I thought satin-black would look good on the car before I bought the car and actually knew they were satin. It doesn’t especially matter if it’s not the 100% exact shade as I would’ve had them done in “satin” regardless. The car is being delivered back with the newly done wheels and new tyres today so will report back following.
