250 250 Coolant type - topping up after thermostat change

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by jamesbeaumont, Jun 6, 2020.

  1. I fitted a new thermostat today and when going to top up the coolant after bleeding the system I noticed the coolant was pink vs the green type D I got from RPD.

Given the original was probably been in there a while and it’s all ok, can I just get a litre of pink and top up instead of draining the whole system?

  2. When was the last time the coolant was changed

  3. Timing belt and water pump was done at the end of last year so I assume then. I’m trying to find out from the previous owner if it was and what fluid was used.

Red or pink fluid is long life stuff 5 year, the blue stuff is 2 year, the only one you have to keep away from is the bright green stuff, if you mix that with any other it turns to jelly.

  5. Good info. The Renault type D is bright green though.. I tried mixing a bit of it with the pink stuff in a beaker yesterday and it hasn’t congealed yet though.
