I've been looking for a Megane 225 and have read several times that the first 225 was a bit 'soft' which Renault then tweaked and launched the Cup, Trophy and F1. Is this correct? I was wondering if there is any mechanical differences between them or is it just cosmetic differences like colour, trim and seats? Which is the best of the bunch? Cheers.
Yeah theres a few mechanical differences, from memory the cup and onwards had a revised weightier steering setting in the ecu for improved feedback. a bigger master cylinder for the breaks and different rear callipers, the bigger master cylinder is for more progressive breaking. I'm not sure if the cup and trophy come with drilled discs but the R26 does and the R26R has grooved discs. The R26 +R26R come with an uprated, thicker rear anti roll bar (again unsure on the cup but i think it came in from the Trophy onwards) They cup R26 and F1 all share the same spring and damper rates(the firmest of the range) while the R26R has slightly softer ones and the normal 225 the softest. Their different weights also R26r the lightest and normal 225 the heaviest (Especially if its a 5 door lux with a panoramic roof!). The R26 and R26R amke a bit more power rated at 230bhp compared to the 225/cup/trophy/f1, this is through a slightly different exhaust design i believe which allegedly sounds more sportier too, although the R26R had an optional titanium exhaust(and roll cage). The big one is the LSD though which the R26 and R26R both have but none of the others do. And cosmetic stuff / seats / spoilers / carbon fibre etc. I think thats about it but there may be more
Cheers for the feedback. The R26 is already out the question as I want to spend no more than £4000, and I'm hoping to find a nice low miler for that. I think the Trophy appeals most at the moment, but I'm going to view both a Trophy and Cup on Saturday. I'll see how they compare.
Nice one mate, enjoy. I have s MK1 225 and a 225 Trophy, so effectively cup vs non-cup, on the road they're very similar although the Trophy stays that bit flatter it's also a lot harsher. Both great in my opinion though
