Evening all, So interested if anyone has tried the kits on the market for converting the standard H7 lamp to a xenon lamp with ballast unit. Interested to know if it’s a big improvement and ok to run in the standard projector lenses on the R26 and as they already have washers which are required for xenon on MOT’s above a certain wattage - the lighting is ok on the Meg but it’s definitely lacking this time of year compared to more modern lighting units. This is the kit I’ve been looking at in 5000k - https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/h7-hids4u-stealth-55w-xenon-hid-conversion-kit.html Cheers, Bob Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
you could fit LED lights but you may need to fit different caps because of the fan built in to them. you'd have to mount the ballast on the outside of the headlight and run the cables in to the headlight wouldn't you with the HID kit? which moisture could get in
Hey man, thanks for the reply. Yeah I’ve seen some LED lamps for replacement but I’ve not been blown away with the quality of the light output - shadow rendering and beam pattern being the main issue. We’ve got LED lights on our bmw and they’re absolutely pants compared to the xenons I’ve had over the years. The ballast normally mounts to location in the engine bay and interrupts the wiring harness so shouldn’t effect the IP rating of the headlight unit. For £65 it might be worth a punt.
