Nice to see that Peugeot are getting back to their proper GTi roots with this, Im incredibly impressed with it! Even more so if that Trophy has the PSC2 tyres!

Lets hope this new Renault Trophy announcement next month is the Clio Trophy we have been hoping for!

  2. Couldn't believe this when I saw it. Good show from the Pug

I tried convincing myself that this track just favoured the 208 in some way

I'm properly astounded at how good/fast it is compared to what is th benchmark hot hatch, The RS Megane.

The spec from the GTi 30th is set to filter down to the normal GTi's as well. £20k for something that is as quick as the 275. I know where my money would probably go if i were int he market for a new Hot Hatch TBH

  5. As good as this is on this one showing, I wouldn't look at the GTi too seriously. I'd rather have a Fiesta ST and that's a car I've slated before. Would be interesting to see the GTi & ST go head to head

Really? Why wouldn't you, Genuinely interested?

Spec wise is is leagues ahead of anything else in its class at the moment and the fact that the Megane's lap was with a warm and sunny day as opposed to the GTi's cold/murky and potentially damp says a lot. I think it would be far quicker round a track than the ST

  7. The review on EVO UK was very enthusiastic.
I drove the GTI when we made the exhaust development and I wasn't impressed. Chassis-wise was very competent but not very playful, and the steering wheel / instrument cluster combination is very annoying.
The engine felt flat as well, the Mini JCW is much more exciting.
Still better than the Clio mk4 RS, and nicer interior than Fiesta ST.
I would still pick the Fiesta, mostly for the much lower price.

I'm interested in driving the RCZ R, a friend of mine bought it and he's coming over in March.

  8. Agreed Jamie, it's a very well setup hot hatch and certainly a return to form for Peugeot. If indeed the new announcement is the Clio trophy it already has it's work cut out.

  9. Eh? This has to be the worst put together video I have ever seen? And where are the lap times?
    Strange video
not in the same league as the meg
lets see its nurburgring time for a nice benchmark not some sketchy video

  10. H look it's from jamie the anti anything megane man
    didn't realise haha

Not in the same league? Stop getting defensive. Lap times say otherwise...

Not in the same class, Normally i would agree but its performance has firmly put it int he class above where it should be IMO, With the Meg RS/Focus ST/VXR etc instead of the baby Hot hatches

  12. What's its ring times ? On fast laps website the normal 208 is slower than the Clio 200 edf round the majority of tracks tested lmao so that 8bhp must have had to do a lot. You are the most anti megane poster on here jamie

oh and the fact the Audi s1 is up there on laptimes makes it even more laughable haha that thing has been slated by everyone else. Awful post

Do you actually know what the 30th edition has over a stock GTi, Quite a lot in regards to performance spec.

Well done for using Fast laps as a basis for your info. Shite website and not a fair or true comparison between anything. At least the video i have linked is the same track/driver/magazine.

Anti Megane? Yep ok if you say so

  14. Fastestlaps site is a bit of a hit and miss mate. I would expect the Meg to obliterate the 208 on the Ring though.. mainly due to it's length. Would still never consider buying this Pug (girls car)

  15. Uouve put more posts up slating meganes than anyone else on here, we all notice and it's a little boring. A YouTube Chanel called Motorsport with some sketchy videos won't force everyone into believing that a 208 with a few minor tweets would touch a 275
    as I said
Get me it's ring laptime up

Magny-Cours club is a track that should suit the Megane well, Fast corners and not so much in the way of low speed, twisty stuff.

I would like to know what its Ring lap time is as well but i can't find one yet.

EVO seem to rate this very highly though. For the price and performance you can't really argue especially these days when a quick Hot Hatch is getting on for 30k

    A YouTube channel called Motorsport?

If you even bother to look in to who actually does the test you will soon realise that they are the French EVO almost...

Meganes are shite, Didn't you know?

Quite interested to see where all these posts that i slate Meganes are as well?

I forget though, You have one on order so obviously your going to be blinkered and defend it til the cows come home...

  18. 208 gti annaversary starting price 22 grand lmao yeah it's a bargain mate lol
deep down you know it's not getting close to a meg
another daft thread where you've been caught out

    Caught out?

    Caught out with what?

  20. Wow. A bit of calm suggested.

That's impressive if they can do that with 205hp, but I do see it's 200kgs lighter than the Megane.

I'm all for this - can only be better for car enthusiasts.

I'm glad there are other people on here that can understand my enthusiasm for it.

The more stuff like this that is out there the better for us. More lighter weight, Manul Hatches please

  22. I like it
I like peugeots and always have
however 1 website out of every other 1 online showing it's as quick as a 275 doesn't warrent a thread saying here is the proof

I'll make sure i find several videos and sources of proof next time i want to post a thread showing a new fast French hatch then.

    My apologies....

  24. I like the look of it .. and if they get anywhere close to the fun of the 205 GTi, then fair play to them

I had a Pug 206 GTi 180 and loved it for what it was at the time

  25. the 275 trophy is a great car but its so satisfying to be in a less powerful car and yet still keep pace. It just shows what a well sorted package it has. it must carry decent cornering pace to make the deficit!

  26. S'all about getting those front wheels digging

Manufacturers are just bunging diffs in left right and centre to hot hatches at the moment.

I can't think who really developed a diff for which they all use as a benchmark...

  27. -Jamie-

The MK1 FRS was the first "mass produced" hot hatch to have an proper LSD in it wasn't it?

Actually the FRP could also be Spec'd with one, A good few years before the RS Team or anyone else even considered it.

It does Bode well for future fast hatches though, Even the latest Clubsport Corsa VXR is meant to be a good piece of kit for being a Corsa/VXR product.

Dickie Meaden had one and the 200T at Bedford and the Corsa was 2s a lap quicker, Not as playful but to some lap times are more important....

  28. Escort RS Turbo was it not? I could be wrong though.

  29. -Jamie-

    -Jamie- RSM Moderator

Ah yes, You would be right. I had one on my MK7 Fiesta as they are a cheap source for a decent diff and they pretty much drop in to the IB5 box.

  30. Like this 208, looks like it has performance to match the looks. Lots of manufacturers have been using lsd on hot hatches since the late 80s early 90s my old civic vti mb6 had one as did early jap spec sir civics! I believe rover used one on the 620ti and tomcat aswell and they were mid 90s mass produced! Good video

  31. Fair play to it, looks like they are wringing the neck of the pug and could be on the power much earlier in the meg (i can in mine so you would assume they can in the 275!)

Shame the pug is horrible to look at and a horrible interior (much like the clios to be fair!)

where does it say it had the ps cup 2's? Or ohlins?

Need to be back to back same driver same day really to be conclusive. My mate works for EVO so ill ask when they have it in for some 'vs' tests if they havent already

  32. EVO needs to do this if it is a giant killer as this suggests.

I think the assumption is that the cars are tested with the tyres as OEM, though in the case of the Trophy , that could mean 3 different tyres. Think the Pug comes with Pilot Super Sports.

  33. They definitely could have got on the power earlier mid corner through to exit. Maybe they don't quite know the capability of the Meg!

  34. I sit here and laugh at all the users who cannot have any car keep up with the megane king!

Im certain that if you (you in general) had a corsa VXR before the megane you killed Meganes now you have a megane you will be blitzing the corsa. Then you'll smoke golf R's, yet when you buy a golf R you'll be killing Meganes.

If a car is capable it's capable for me, regardless what manufacturer....looks quick that GTI shame about it's looks.

  35. It's only natural people want their car to be the bees

  36. Doesnt the megane do a lap a second quicker on the same circuit with the same magazine on its other videos?

Good on Peugeot I think they need something like this to get back on track, looks like a riot.

Check out the laptimes when evo had the s1 and mini gp together though, big difference:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPnAtNbrygk

  38. Took delivery of Evo #207 yesterday and they've matched the GTi 30th vs Fiesta ST. Looks like they've been swayed, awarding the Pug 5 stars and Fiesta ST 4.5

Lap times say a lot as well:

    GTi 1:08.3
    ST 1:10.8

2.5 seconds is a hell of a gap over a short lap like that.. Looks like Peugeot have their hot hatch mojo coming back after all!

They've also pitted the 'Golden' hot hatches together.. Focus ST vs Proceed GT vs Cooper S (5dr) vs 275 Trophy vs Cupra 280 vs Astra VXR vs Golf GTI. Only one of them got 5 stars and was the outright winner. No prizes for guessing..

    Great read.

"The Renault takes a different approach - each element perfectly matched to the next to create a whole that has a rare harmony and quite extraordinary reserves of composure. In short, it's still The One. If the Focus RS can eventually go beyond the Trophy, it'll be a truly special car. Your move, Ford."

  39. How dare you post or even speak about a car that is not a Megane? banned haha :worried:

  40. Holy thread resurrection batman, I really like these 30th anniversary ones they look hard. Also go well too. Even the old 206GTI's were a fast car. My pal had one years ago and it went like fcuk!
