18 or 19" wheels,

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by mondeoman, May 20, 2016.

  1. I know most chaps on here will prefer the 18s, however I have a full set of 18" tibors and a full set of 19" Steevs and have tried both sets at length on the car, for road use I honestly can't tell any difference, track use, yes probably, but my main reason for preferring the 19" steevs is that they look SO much better in the wheel arches, the 18" Tibors make the car look "underwheeled" as I call it, in other words they give the visual impression that they don't fill the arches enough.
Just my opinion anyway guys. S7301590.JPG

  2. Is that running the same brand of tyre? As that can make a difference in its self. i currently have the 19's but am on the look out for 18's. I may not bother now...

  3. What about steering response, progressiveness and comfort? There have to be difference, especially on road use. Please give your opinions, those who have experienced both.

  4. Steering response and comfort will also be influenced by the tyre and its sidewall stiffness in particular.
I prefer the look of the 18s Tibor and I also inherently prefer the look of small wheels as it looks more motorsport than council estate (IMO).

  5. Yes, good point Steve84, unfortunately not, 19s on conti sports, 18s on Mich' pilot sports, Steering chap, maybe more extreme drivers than me can feel a difference but I honestly can't, Nickfrog, everyone will have different likes and ability to analyse tyres/handling etc, PS I don't live on a council estate :sunglasses:

  6. Thanks for the reply. I test drove a few megane's before i got mine, all of those on 18's and i did feel as the car did flow better over the smaller bumps in the road compared with the 19's i have on mine. But i do prefer the look of the 19's over the 18's.

  7. Yes Steve, I much prefer the look of the 19s, in fact I really meant to post this thread just about the look of 18s v 19s and not about the handling etc. Incidentally in owning mine for 5 months I've only ever seen one other Meg RS and that was a pre arranged meet up, they seem pretty rare !

  8. Yes that meet up was with me and I have still got it.

  9. Not keen on the look of the 19's. Too asymmetric.

  10. I've literally just gone from Steevs to Tibors and I'm pleased with the overall improvement in driving dynamics. Admittedly, the Tibors have superior rubber on them, but the ride is more compliant and the chassis feels more progressive. For me, 18s are the way to go. Pressure sensors supplied with the wheels were auto detected straightaway too, which was nice.

  11. What are the rivers you used?

  12. What are the rubers, I meant......

  13. 235/40 Pilot Super Sport. The Steevs were running regular P Zeroes which were...okay.

  14. Oh hi Chris, how ya doing, still never spotted you around Newtown.

  15. Hi, doing well. Don't use it that much. But got along trip planned in it in a few days time and will probably do well over 2000 miles and some testing roads will be found on the way back.

  16. Have a good trip, 200 miles would be my limit with Meg RS suspension. !!

  17. Driving down to Nice through France and then coming back through Italy, Switzerland, Germany & Belgium.
