  1. Hi

Have had a quick search on here and can’t find a relevant thread and watched an inconclusive PistonHeads video on YouTube soooooo what size is “best” for a car mainly used on road and half a dozen TD’s or is it personal taste?

By best I mean wet+dry grip. Noise and comfort and longevity not the main concern.

Feel free to point my in the direction of threads which already cover this.

    Thanking you.

  2. The only difference your going to find is the extra cost of tyres, no real ground breaking difference otherwise

  3. I found going from 19 to 18 that the ride was better. 18's seem to be the sweet spot for these, for a little more sidewall and if its important slightly lower tyre costs when you get a new set (albeit depending on what you buy and consider a good tyre) I also think the 18's look better on the Mk3 is they have the offset to give it a good stance and fill the arches.

  4. Ok I need someone to come along and give a deciding option ;-)

  5. 18 all way, quicker turn in, greater range tyres/brands v’s 19 plus they look the sporty part. 19 good for bling bling

  6. I guess if I buy a car with half-decent 19s they’d be people willing to swap.

  7. I have tried both

18: Better ride, better wet performance
19: better turn in, steering response and dry performance. a compromise on bumpy road though

  8. I’ve had both and found exactly this too.

I've ran 17/18/19 on mine, 18s definitely the sweet spot but I prefer it on 17s, so much I've just bought another set to replace my 18 rosd wheels

  10. Surely 19s look better, better on a track due to greater sidewall stiffness and lower profile with less deflection, scrub etc.

18s better for ride and overall comfort, with little or no compromise in grip, especially on the road.

If you're worried about wet grip, buy Michelin.

Smaller wheels definitely ride better on trsck, but most people run proper tyres with stiff sidewalls

  12. Car I’m looking at already has PS4s on it and if it didn’t I’d get them ;-)

  13. I have both 18" & 19" wheels, I use a set of Autec Wizards (9.1kg) 18" for winter tyres, I believe the larger profile gives a softer ride in cold temperatures. I have 18" Tibor with Michelin PS4s and 19" Steeve with Michelin PS4S for summer. Whch would I choose for summer? The only ones that you can get Michelin PS4S for. PS4 are not quite as good as the PS4S in my opinion, so no contest for me.

    Road use only

  14. Good point! I would swap the Autec's with the Tibor's because the Tibor wheel is so heavy compared to the others (even the 19" Steev's are lighter I believe). The difference in PS4 and PS4S on the road? I think you'll feel the difference in a lighter wheel better than the difference in PS4 and PS4S.

I've gone from 19" Steev's to 18" Sparco's (not even the lightest wheel) and I'm very happy with it.

  15. I have the Tibors as they are the originals, but hardly use them as I prefer the PS4S shod Steevs. As for the Autec Wizards, wonderful as they are, as I prefer the PS4S I'd end up with 4 sets of wheels - which is too many. I also have to store the winter wheels for my families other two Megane IIIs :-) unfortunately they won't fit the RS because of the calipers.
