175 Cup suspension part numbers

  1. Hi,

I may need a few bits for my new car (175 Cup), but I'm not sure of the best place to buy them.

For my last car (MG ZT) I'd use a website like Rimmers - http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001548 - to find the part numbers I need to make sure it's the right part. Is there a Renault equivalent?

I need a 175 Cup front shock - does anyone know the part number for this please?

  2. Renaultparts direct will see you right. Is where I got the springs for my old 175.

  3. Hi

    Got your PM.

Yes I used Paul at RPD for my cup dampers on the 175.

    Part numbers are:

    The Cup fronts are: 8200757549
    The Cup rears are: 8200647929.

I fitted them with Eibach Pro springs.

    Nice results.

Replacement rears made the biggest difference.

  4. Thanks

What threw me was I could only find one damper that appears to be common to both Cup and non-Cup - it looks like 549 is the cup, but the non-cup one isn't available any more.

Ordered the pair from Renault Parts Direct, fairly cheap at £110 for the pair, just a shame the springs were that each as otherwise I would've done those at the same time.

Now to decide whether I have the nerve to DIY it...

  5. Yeah I was going to put fresh springs on but not at that price! Hence the Eibach which are far better than the factory springs in my opinion.

    DIY is doable.

Only issue I had was splitting the driveshaft from the hub. You'll need to get the whole leg off including hub as you won't get the strut out of the arch in situ. (I think you can do it if you compress the springs but it will be easier off the car).

One of the driveshafts popped out eventually with a puller/press. The other wouldn't have it so I took it off with the hub as one piece, disconnecting at the inner driveshaft cup. Just had to fit a new clip afterwards and pop some extra cv grease in!

It's heavier with the shaft attached and more of a faff but I managed it no worries.

I also disconnected the hub via the three 13mm bolts and not the lower ball joint. A locating spigot will help you guide it back on but that plate connects to the anti rotation link so is preloaded a bit. Take a bit of jiggery-pokery to get the lower plate aligned whilst pushing the driveshaft into the cup!

The pinch bolt for the damper is bolted and not threaded into the aluminium hub. This is good! Means you can break it free with less risk of shearing like on the normal
Meganes with steel hubs which are threaded. Ask me how I know!

I still needed the impact gun on the bolt though to loosen it as after eight years of galvanic corrosion had taken hold of it! Some plusgas and the impact gun and ten seconds was enough to free it!
