£1300+ for a clutch replacement??

  1. Just had a quote for a new clutch to be fitted as mine is starting to slip and was quoted £1300!? Parts and labour.... does this sound right to any of you? Car is a standard meg 250

  2. I would say £1000 is about the going rate.

  3. Sounds expensive, where are you based Joel?

  4. I’m based in South Wales, I am finding it a real struggle to find Renault specialists around by me the only ones I know of are over the bridge.

  5. Yeah not sure there’s any in Wales tbf.

Might be worth sending Ian Plymouth a message he’s just done a clutch change for another member and may do yours if you ask nicely and provide the parts. He’s in Devon.

  6. I read a post on here about someone in grangetown supposedly renault trained might be worth finding out, if I can find it will let you know

  7. I found that post was on clio sport net & a lad on there uses all time, grange service station, Clive street cardiff, his name is Phil, ford & renault trained, worth a try

  8. This is the sound my car is currently making it sounds like this when driving through 1st and 2nd. Just need people’s verdict on what it is. Does this sound gearbox related to any of you??

  9. Sounds like belt or pulley related to me, just reving it is not actually engaging gearbox

  10. Can you believe that in Serbia the replacement of clutch in private unofficial workshops is 50 euro.

  11. Guys is this a sign of a bad clutch? So say I’m cruising at 30mph in 3rd gear And my revs are sat at around 2500-3000rpm is this a sign of a bad clutch, my revs just seem abit higher than usual.

  12. nope, clutch slip is not continual, select 6th gear at 65mph and floor it see if engine revs rise quicker than car is moving

  13. I’ll try and explain as best I can.... so when I’m out daily driving it’s always been a struggle to get into 2nd smoothly without the car kangrooing unless I’m very smooth with the clutch, the other day when I was sat at red lights I couldn’t even get into first Gear so I had to repeatedly go into neutral and back to 1st vice versa until I could actually get into 1st, And as I was trying to explain earlier with the rpms just seeming higher than usual I’ll try and get a video so you can see what I’m trying to get across. Or maybe I’m just over reacting and the car is fine.

  14. Guessing could be two separate issues, regarding gear selection sound like sloppy links on cable or mounting bracket on gearbox as these would certainly give symptoms you say
Typical erratic ideal/running is either plugs, coils or injectors or combination plus duff sensors cam, crank, manifold pressure/vacuum
Best bet get it on engine management reader with good independent reno dealer

  15. I am based near you and wonder if you have managed to find a specialist? I am looking for someone as well...

  16. The garage in grangetown already mentioned or
FOATAUTO in Barry his name is Sean and he is also renault trained and won't rip you off would recommend,
