Drop an injector seal into chamber

  1. Hi all,

I gave my fuel injectors a clean recently and after a couple of days I started having misfires in cylinder 1 with an error code stating it wasn't getting fuel. So I took the fuel rail off again but this time the injector in cylinder 1 stayed in the hole.

I managed to coax it out but the black plastic cap and the brown rubber O-ring fell into the chamber. I have used an endoscope and can see the cap but not the O-ring, unfortunately I can't get the cap out yet. The piston is near TDC. I've taken the spark plug out and can't see anything.

What is the likelihood that the O-ring has gone under the piston and what is the worst that can happen?

    TIA.

  2. The O-ring can´t get under the piston, the clearance from piston to wall ist about 4-5/100th mm. The O-Ring might be 2 or 3 mms. In worst case the ring could be catched by the edge of the piston and could be pulled into the small top land where´s the clearance is much bigger than below the piston rings. There the piston gap to the wall could be half a mm. Turn the piston down to BDC , then you should see it with a small lamp through the spark hole because it can´t hide behind the edges of the head where you don´t see it - if it´s in the cylinder at all ! Maybe it´s in the intake port close to the valves? It could be catched by the valves when turning the engine. Probably best would be to blow it into the cylinder and remove it through the spark hole. The expense to remove the intake runner to get it out might be much more - I actually don´t know the expense to remove the intake. You have to decide between both options....good luck !

  3. Sorry, the clearance totally is 4-5/100th mm, from piston to wall the half - but makes no difference for you.
