When to change timing belt/waterpump

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Kempy 81, Sep 13, 2015.

  1. Hi guys recently had the car in at Renault and they said might want to think about this as car is a 10 plate with just over 37k on it. Then when speaking to another garage they said 6 years old or 72k to change it also seen people mention on here that renault have contributed to this as car was just out of warranty. How long is Renault warranty? Any info would be much appreciated cheers guys.

  2. Renault wouldn't contribute to the normal servicing of a car, you may be getting confused with issues where the bet has snapped ( though I can't think I've heard of any mk3's doing so yet).

  3. Thanks twig must have picked it up wrong in that case

  4. Just make sure you get a proper Ind RS Specialist to do it - like Rentec in Edinburgh or SWR in Stirling

  5. So... when are decent intervals for cambelt change?

  6. I always stick with 5 years or 75k whichever comes first.

  7. The renault general rule is 5yrs or 72k mls. Whichever comes sooner

  8. For the MK2 it is but the MK3 is 6 years/75k.

  9. Even better then

  10. Cheers shadow appreciated

  11. Hmm ok, mine is on 64k, and i believe it's had a belt previously done. I expect the next service interval in 7kish will be my belt time. i'll get saving!

  12. I wouldn't wait 6 years until I changed the belts.

Even though Renault are recommending 6 years on the mk3 I still wouldn't go past 5.

  13. The period was changed to 6 years during the last couple of years of the mk2, not with the introduction of the mk3. And it's 72kmiles

Mine is 5 1/2 years old and I'm waiting til its 6 years or 72k, Whichever is soonest. Not far off the mileage anyway

  15. Pretty sure the service schedule I have says 75k. Nothing straightforward with Renault

  16. Called a couple of places for prices on timing belt, waterpump, aux belt, and de phaser pulley done rented was £570 and sewer was £650 so bit of difference in price. What's people's opinions on both company's? Cheers.

  17. Pretty decent prices tbh if it's a reputable garage.

  18. Yeah meant to be rentec was £570 and both Renault specialists

  19. I use SWR and always found them to be good but plenty say the same of Rentec. I'd just use whoever is most convenient for you, both will do a good job.

I won't use anyone other than SWR for anything RS related these days

  21. I use Rentec as they are closer to me - they are great.

I would use SWR for more motorsport type stuff, like getting buckets to fit sidemounts etc etc etc.

Both have a stellar reputation and having a bill from either for the belt change will make it a lot easier to sell on in the future also.

  22. I've used both garages quite a lot and they're both good trustworthy specialists.

The guys at rentec are genuinely Renault enthusiasts too.
