225 Drinking too much petrol??

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by pervertedmonk, Sep 6, 2015.

  1. I've got it my head that my 225 is drinking too much or is it.

from Essex to Silverstone is 87 miles give take a bit. so wife and 2 kids in the car at 70mph 99% all the way. showing 38 -36mpg.
started with 3/4 of a tank and now have just under a qtr.

car runs fine no smoke etc. all std.

    does that seem about right..

  2. Doesn't sound right but then I suppose if you've mapped it etc it would use more, I think. My 250 with a midbox chop and ktr induction kit went from Oxford to Weymouth (260 mile round trip) on just over half a tank.

  3. Sounds like it's using a lot. My 265 would use less than quarter of a tank to do that

  4. I think mine drinks more after a mid box chop.

  5. My Megane has never recorded above 27 mpg on average since I owned it . . . always been mapped though.

  6. MBC

    MBC

Mines mapped and does 28.6 when I'm driving not like I stole it. It does 33 on the Mway and about 24 on country roads

  7. somethings definately wrong there

  8. I would say mine in the same standard, it's not to bad on a run 30 ish
    But around town etc 22-24

  9. My R26 is mapped and decatted with back box chop, and has averaged just over 30mpg in the 2 years I've had it. My old 225 5dr did 27mpg and that was standard. I get 350+ miles from a full tank.

87 miles at 70mph would be a quarter of a tank max.

  10. wow the best I have ever had on full tank is 270!! I hope to see better returns with changed injectors in mine

  11. Ah I forgot, the first few months I had the car I averaged 28 mpg. When I had the injectors changed it went straight up to just over 30. They were changed at 35k miles and the car has done 50 now.

I put a full tank in, £65 or so, and it lasts me pretty much a full month (bit less sometimes). I average 350-400 miles per month.

  12. Something doesnt sound right . Ive had mine from huddetsfield to London and back on half a tank (circa 200 miles ). What fuel are you using

  13. Mine was more efficient when mapped with a decent map.

Which leads me to the question : has the car been mapped ?

  14. strange full tank for me is at the moment £54 buying momentum at 1.15p?

  15. I've seen v-power sold at above 125p recently so might be the reason for the price difference. Shell rip the piss out of it, over 10p more than standard unleaded. I'll stick to momentum thanks!

Those figures do seem heavy on fuel. As andybond said, I'd expect if it was mapped that you'd find it to be more efficient. I've found my 250 to be more efficient on the road and on track since mapping.

  16. Full tank on my 250 saw me around 385 miles and the petrol light still didn't come on before I filled up again. That was from Oxford to Edinburgh doing 65 the whole way, it was hard lol!

  17. I have heard some cars become better on fuel when mapped.

  18. Yeah V Power which is about £1.20-odd. I think it took £66 from pretty much empty last time I filled up.

  19. I always use 99ron Tesco. its hardly run on any lower fuel and always filled right up.

its had new injectors fitted last year. its not mapped. never thrashed, doesn't smoke ticks over fine.

surely cant be right....would a diagnostic bring anything up. or a de-coke....or does it need to go on a rolling road for a diagnostic to check readings. it passed it mot fine in may.

  20. Faulty fuel gauge? What does the trip say the mpg is?

  21. Mpg was set when we left. 36 to 38mpg there and back. 21 to 25mpg around town.

  22. The Megs have a 60L tank so it should be closer to £70 if filling from empty.

I forgot about the time I drove back from Loch Ness on a single tank - I filled up near Loch Ness, drove to Inverness then back to Sheffield, a total of 460 miles and all on a single tank. I was doing 90-100+ on parts of the A9 as well. The fuel light came on while I was on the M6, nearly 100 miles from home still. I was determined to get home on one tank so slowed to 60mph, reset the trip and averaged 43mpg for the last 100 miles (I had a can of petrol in the back anyway).

  23. is the ph1 smaller than later ones because mines been well on empty and most its ever cost to fill is £58. I fill up once a week when its got no miles left on the computer left and its empty on gauge

  24. Fuel leek , no smell of fuel ?

  25. "empty" isnt the same as empty

These cars tend to hold around 5litres when you think its empty.

Mine tends to bong / bing when around 33mi left and then show --.-- miles left on the fuel range. I can do around 20mi after that and then there is around 5l left.

  26. no smell, no leaks. no smoke. car runs fine and pulls well when needed.
oil was changed June last year. I will get an engine health check done..it might be just in my head but just seems too much for the miles it does.
I did give it its winter polish and sealant done today so may have reduced drag a bit....

  27. Have you checked for sticking calliper ?

  28. I get what your saying. I have recently messed about with the rear calliper's they were sticking but not sticking on. ive no brake smells or excess brake dust on the rear rims. car rolls ok on slow pull away. worth looking at again though.
