Hi everyone, I tried to get my seat fitted tonight, spent the last week making sure I'd got everything. Got the subframe in etc, sat the seat on it to bolt it down and noticed the bolt holes are a good 20/25mm away from each other. One thing that crossed my mind was the XL seat is wider and it would probably mount wider because of that. Ive used a K-Tec subframe with corbeau side mounts and the corbeau pro series bucket seat. I just wish ktec would specify this on their website just as a precaution/warning. They don't even have dimensions to check before you buy, if you think/remember about this potential issue that is. Anyway enough moaning, what have other guys done for subframes when fitting XL seats? Has anyone else come across this problem? Im not exactly a whiz at fabricating things, otherwise I'd knock up my own subframe. just thought I'd see what others have done first before going to see someone to make one up. Chris
I've not fitted an XL seat but for a normal width Cobra seat I had to buy the OMP side mounts with the straight sides and double width/bolt hole base to allow them to fit (hope that makes sense I'll try and get a link) beacause the bolt spacing on the KTec sub frames were to narrow. I think you might struggle to fit them without drilling the subframes.
Is that with the runners on? If so I took my runners off and just drilled new hole in the subframe and fitted it
I'm not using runners with mine, I may have to try something like mark mentioned which was get side mounts that are straight. I don't know if you've noticed with a lot of subframes they have a bit of a curved shape to them at the bottom and if the sides were straight looking at it I would gain 5mm or so of space on the subframe each side. Cause with the side mounts as they are they sit too close to the edge of subframes which will make it difficult to drill and remount safely. I was having a good browse through the sports seats 4 U in Notts last night and I've seen a decent option of side mount tbh, can't remember make but it's got elongated bolt holes where it bolts to subframe which I would assume allows you to move the mount in or out depending on seat width, so that combined with the straight/flat sides of the mounts may allow me enough space to drill the subframe. I was too annoyed to spend too much time on it last night as I had loads to crack on with on the house too, so was going to have another look Saturday to get something order Monday or speak to someone Monday cause someone I know is a fabricator and could knock me up some decent side mounts if I give him the measurements and he owes me a favour thinking about it lol.
I've got the 197/200 Clio Cup Racer mounts in mine now (made by Sabelt). [h=1][/h]They're really low and because the Cup Racers are all left hand drive there's no chance your going to reach the pedals if you've got short legs. Unless anyone knows a new part number for the passenger side RenaultSport Sabelt seat mounts ???
Just following on from this, I found another side mount to try which was very close. I still don't think drilling the holes will help due where the side mounts sit on the subframe. Im on the verge of either getting some custom side mounts made or make my own subframe, making a subframe will allow me to mount the harness better/easier on the inside of the seat down the side of the tunnel. Before I do that I was just curious what anyone else has done when fitting XL seats in these
Hi, What was your solution to this? Also looking at fitting xl corbeau pro seats to my r26, ideally with the runners, and not sure which subframe/side mounts to get! Cheers.
I got the same seats, fitted mine to Ktec subframes, i also have sliders fitted, just drilled new holes on the outer edge but used the inner ones, seat was very close to the doors if i remember correctly.
yes, the seats came with the side mounts and sliders, needed a bit of playing with, but happy the way they worked out. sorry no pics of the install, i get carried away when fitting thing and forget to take pics. If you want i can take some pics later, i am away tomorrow back Monday so i can get some pics later if you want.
i don't think any seat fits on the ktec subframes without drilling more holes, took me a few attempts to sort properly
Hi,just having a read through this thread. Fitting bucket seats sometimes is tricky. It's a case of choosing the correct individual parts to make the fit straight forward. In the case of this thread you may find that the 90 degree sidemounts with slotted holes would make life a lot easier. I've just released my first batch of VBD Long & Low Megane subframes. These are designed to offer the driver a greater range of positions. Extended by 60mm in length compared to K-Tec subframes. Multiple chassis mounting holes. Multiple sidemount fixings to suit wider seats and various sidemount designs. Would be interested to hear members thoughts and needs. Jon
I've just fitted a set of subframes from Jon Foz, no drilling needed and lower than the ktec ones which needed a fair bit of drilling fiddling with to fit, the new ones are top quality.
my ktec frames fit all the holes and fit the holes on the seats too from what i remember, car came like that, not sure if i have the lucky seat/ktecbracket combination. i didnt fit them they were already on the car. happy to get some pics if it helps over the weekend
some of the guys are like racing snakes and some of us contribute to the cars lacklusture performance haha
Martin I take then ? Can you post some pics of yours fitted Would be great to see. Let me know what you think.Goid or bad.Always open for feedback. Jon
Yes thats me, thanks for the fast delivery, seat height is just right now, will get some pics up soon, cheers.
