  1. So I'm in the market for a new watch......can anyone recommend me something nice? (With pictures if possible) Will only be a watch for going out not an every day wearer.

  2. Omega Planet Ocean - 14393044217582117391469.jpg

  3. In what price bracket roughly.
    Quartz or Mechanical
Large [TW Steel/U Boat] medium [Police/diesel/Hamilton] small [Seiko/Rotary/oris]
    Cheers Andy

  4. Plenty of good watches out there.Any of the well known brands.Price range?. I have a Britling Emergency. Useful if i crash / Hit deer etc.in the Scottish mountains in Mid Winter!.BUT, every 5 years, needs service,£300 last time from Britling, But TWA watches has just serviced it £79. I also have a solar powered watch, never needs a battery. also.plenty of good second hand watches available. ( watch store)

  5. How much are you looking at spending?

  6. Keep an eye out for the GQ annual watch guide or check their website for inspiration.
Personally like the U-boat flight deck range but a tad pricey. TW steel aren't to bad.

  7. It all depends on what style you want and price bracket.
are you going to be wearing it all day or just for now and then.
also a lot of high end watches do need a service every few years and that's normally £300+

  8. Probably between 3-400 it's just going to be something for a nice occasion but nothing over the top. Not sure on a style I'm quite open, I just tend to buy what takes my fancy at the time hence asking for some pictures.

  9. For me it had to be the omega planet ocean. Service interval is every 6 years dressy enough for a nice evening. Sporty enough for day to day.
My biggest regret was buying a quartz tag. Love it but money could have been spent wiser.

  10. [IMG]
Fits nicely under the cuff not too big but big enough to be noticed at 45.5mm

  11. Not going to get an Omega for 400 quid thoug is he?

I'd get a Seiko automatic divers, you won't get a better watch for the money. Most stuff at £300-£400 are just fashion watches with a cheap Quartz movement and a Chinese made case. (Nothing wrong with Quartz, I have a Quartz Tag but you're paying for a fashion brand with those £300-£400 watches not for an actual watch.)

    Plenty on here: http://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-divers-60/

  12. I was a bit like the OP and wanted a nice watch but didn't know what. I didn't want to spend too much but I did want a Swiss watch and a titanium bracelet so bought the below.

It was £250 but I think it's no longer available, but Tissot are a good make for not too much money, if you don't want to spend big on the more respected brands.

  13. Read 3-400 as 3-4k for some reason.

If you can stretch your budget to 500 you can't beat Christopher ward. Outstrips any sub 1k watch. Also looking at steinhart.

  14. Christopher Ward is definitely a good shout.

Don't be tempted into a used Swiss Quartz at that money it will be battered. Even some used automatics for four figures are very poor condition.

Beaverbrooks normally do quite a big range of half decent brands for that sort of money. I would definitely stay away from all the Gucci, Hugo Boss etc for that money that are just terrible

  15. Watches are very much down to personal taste I guess, I do love them and have a few.

I do also like TW Steel, I know they are not to everyone's taste, but I currently own eight of them. Some of the 50mm are quite big, but the 45mm are quite a nice size.

This website is good, always have many sale items at reduced prices, they are Amsterdam based but I've had several from them and the service has been excellent.

  16. Recently bought a Tissot PRS200, great watch for the money. Retail 380 i think, seen a brand new one, sealed box etc on eBay for 280! Looks superb

For 3-400 id be looking at Tissots or Seikos, but as already mentioned watches are very much down to personal taste!

  17. Do Christopher Ward all come with leather straps? Just had a brief look at their website. I don't know what it is but leather strapped watches always look a bit creepy to me

  18. Yes mate a lot come with the steel bracelet.

  19. If you're after a seiko have a look at yorkshirewatches dot com.

Personally the SNZF17J1 is hard to beat or if you fancy proper old school the SNZF007 (no intended link to the fictional MI6 operative). Pepsi style face/bezel is the 009.

  20. I have the pepsi style SNZF15 and its an ace watch. Only issue I have is trying to find another end piece for it that attaches to the strap

  22. I would recommend something from TW Steel or Tissot.
i'm looking at getting a Tissot T-Touch Expert Solar later on this year to replace my battered G-Shock.

I have a Longines Opposition I wear for best. Lovely watch and not missed a beat in 15 years (other then needing the odd battery)

  23. Also have a look at Omologato
    http://www.omologatowatches.com/
been making watches for car manufacturers for years,
but have just started making there own motorsport/car inspired watches. £150-£300.

  24. These are quite nice, a few of the tissot ones are taking my fancy too.

  25. My Omega Seamaster is due a service £95 through gold smiths

  26. Maybe worth mentioning gold smiths do 0% finance , easy way to have a nice watch on your arm

  27. I tried a deep sea on the other day finance wasn't half tempting.

  28. Not seen a deep sea

  29. Beaverbrooks do 0% finance too, tbh the payments on a £1500 watch can be so small you wouldn't even notice them (unless you're on the dole obviously).

  30. That's me out then Rob

  31. Really nice. But chunkyer than the go to submariner. The new fade to black face looks really smart.
Massively chunky. Feels much bigger than my P.O. on the wrist.

  32. Been in gold smiths today to try on the speed master and the planet ocean, neither took my fancy TBH think I'll be having the seamaster black ceramic, fitted lovely as it's virtually the same as my blue Seamaster I've had for 10 years which I dropped off for a service

  33. £2,770 [IMG]

  34. Timeless classic I think

  35. Really? The pricks quoted me 260!!

  36. Also get yourself a Tesco credit card, tesco club card points are 3 for one at goldsmiths.
I put everything on mine and box it off at the end of the month, the points soon rack up and you also get money off at the pump.
    Win, win!
