as above I have just been given some new glass coat and just wandered what others thought as I am a "go to poles for a wash" kind of guy but love the gold speckles in my paint when its clean cheers john.
If you regularly get your car done at a hand car wash, IMO there's not much point putting any protection on the paint or windows as the harsh cleaners they use will strip it off pretty quickly. I don't know how you can take your car to one tbh, I take the works van every now and again and cringe as they thrash the car dry with 50p fake leathers that have probably seen the floor 20 times!
Yep i'd say if you're not fussed about looking after it why bother? Then again get it corrected then protected and never go near the poles unless its £20 a dance!!
Renault g3 ceramic glasscoat, where I live my car is open for all the cocks to key, spit on, flick there roll ups on and let there dogs piss on the wheels so I don't detail it every weekend god knows I would like to but I have no garage so its the side of the road (down a dodgy road at that)! and to top it off I got keyed last night nice white line of undercoat great!!!
Looks like they tried to pop a window too but it dint give, I now have a 50p size scrape/etch in my passanger window
So has anyone actually used this stuff? A place near me is doing it for £199 so I'm thinking about having the missus car done.
We sell it in work and have to say it does a nice finish on the paintwork but its far too expensive i would much rather buy a mequiars or auto glym polish it has a better finish and its much easier to replenish polishes and that that you need to maintain the coat
Not used glass coat itself but when weather clears for a break I'm going to use GTechniq G1 and Exo. They form a hydrophobic bond to ur paintwork, glass etc and water beads off, they also claim it lasts up to 4 yrs as a daily driver and forms a rock hard layer to protect against scratches. I've used Gtechniq G1 for my glass and was amazed at how good it is. Product like this aremiles cheaper than glass coat and appears to do a similar thing. Can also get products like Nanolex but it depends how much up your into detailing your car.
i will have a go, i got it free so i am not fussed about wasting it and my guy that uses it said you only use small amount i might get him to get me some more get stocked up for summer or sell em to you guys to try out
also guys we have a top product at our car wash, aqua wax i think the retail product is - different name for trade branding both autoglym, its a good protective spray after soaping and mitting. and you can see it work fast - reps have explained works good on soaping and watch it kill suds and cling to paint work.... then once you have jetted off buff up with a micro fluffy towel . like the size of a small beach towel, big blue fleece thing red stitching. good for extra protection ontop of your already protected paint. just a quick and cheap added layer. we other it customers for an option. ill find out the brand name to our commercial products if anybody interested shines like mad for a h20 product jay
I'm interested in more info on this kind of thing. Is a sealant pretty much a super hard wax? How do you apply?
A sealant is a synthetic polymer based product and a wax is formed from natural carnauba which is found on leaves in the Brazilian rain forests. Both have very good water repellency. Waxes tend to be more expensive for the good stuff which last 6 months. Application of Exo can be seen on gtechniqs site: http://gtechniq.com/shop/3s-for-car...ra-durable-hybrid-coating-c1-crystal-lacquer/ basically you you dab it onto a cotton pad and apply in circles to each panel then buff off using a micro fibre cloth. The G1 and G2 I used on my windscreen has such a high water repellance that when driving in the rain on motorways I don't need to use wipers. It just beads off the screen.
Be very careful with some of these sealants, they are not easy to apply and can be a nightmare once cured, especially gtechniq c1 + exo. Seen many people apply it then they moan there's residue and it won't come off. You have to apply it and get it straight off the panel.If it cures and you don't have all of it off the panel it will leave residue and WILL need polishing again to remove the residue. Awesome stuff though when it's done right every car I have booked in for the next 3 weeks is with the gtechniq and exo v2 kit.
100% mate!! Gtech stuff or another good brand will last a lot longer as well!!!! You can get it done by a pro detailer and it will still cost less than 'glasscoat' + I'm keeping an eye on your R26 that's for sale and don't want no cheap shet on it lol
Lol, r26 has gone now my meg needs a bloody good polish before sealant but think I'll take this route. My missus car will get a go too I think. With the sealant route, is it similar to wax in terms of top up? When my car stops beading I generally stick another coat on, or strip back, clay and wax again. Does sealant need to be stripped right off or can it be layered? Is it also recommended to primer before sealant? And when it's been on a while (6months+) does it still need polishing off or does APC work?
Congrats! Yep you can top up just like a wax and can be layered, the more layers the better. They also bond better to clean paint so I wouldn't bother using anything under it just apply straight onto a clean product free surface.
Check out Carpro Hydr02 sealant, effortless to apply, touchless sealant and sheets water brilliantly. Epic beading too. you wont get anything easier to apply with great results. I find it lasts 2-3 months before another application is needed.
Thats a good point well made there bud, they can be tricky to apply. However there are videos on you tube demonstrating their application I also know there is a rep who can answer queries and he can be contacted on "detailing world". So a bit of research would be useful. Will also be useful to speak to those who have used their products themselves for a bit of feedback. I had issues with one of their products and it was down to over application of the product, it's always best to remMber the phrase "a little goes a long way" with G Techniqs' products. Liquid- it would be good to see some before and after photos of your car following the Exo treatment.
Don't have any before and afters on mine unfortunately. Thing is it's easy to watch detailing videos and read the how to's but it does take some trial and error on some of these types of product. Your quite correct with the little goes a long way quote, c1 and exo v2 are quite easy to apply and spread but they clog a microfibre easily so I always use 2 a panel one to wipe the first part expect this one to clog at a point then the second to catch any other residue. Alot of people don't realise how much the residue spreads out over a panel when buffing off, it's easy to see on black not so much on other colours.Good lighting is also good for showing any missed bits.
I think I'll have to have a go in the summer and do a detailed set of pics of the attempt. It's white but quite swirly so a decent polish should have it looking sweet. How is the paint on the 250? It was pretty soft on the mk2?
Medium imh, Scholl s17 for correction then refined with meguiars 205 for me on my white 250 using the flex3401vrg
Another for S17+. I've found it works well with different pads, and it's versatile enough to do both correction and refinement.
You 'should' get 6months maybe 12+ from a decent sealant tbh mate, but if you notice beading/sheeting wearing off earlier just top up

I actually have a bottle of this G3 Glasscoat protection that I had given to me when I bought my Twingo 133. Basically they offered it to me and my (now) ex-girlfriend on our Twingos as bought them at the same time. They applied it to her car for free and left it off mine as per my request. I will admit the paintwork beaded really nicely on her 133 for about 3-4 months. It was only ever washed with a weak concentration of shampoo but after 4 months the beading was non existent and I ended up detailing it properly. Reading the instructions properly, most people don't realise the extremely specific requirements needed to make these kinds of products last as long as they claim too. For example this had to be applied to completely cleaned, degreased and decontaminated paintwork. It had to be applied in a very specific environment, as in indoors, no direct sunlight etc. Only then would it last the claimed amount of time. This is what gets me, no dealership (that I've experienced at least) will allocate the time needed to apply a product such as this, hence why they get such a bad press in the detailing community. No in house valeter will de-iron, clay, polish etc a car prior to applying this, hence the products don't last. If you have a bottle of this stuff, then give it a go, not got anything to lose and try following the instructions as closely as you possibly can. I keep meaning to get my Twingo under my gazebo and try it out, just not had a chance.
Just had G3 Glasscoat applied to my 265 free of charge by Renault Manchester after Renault Birmingham tried to bullshit me that they'd done it. first impressions are very positive in terms of the quality of their work. I'll try and put some snaps up soon and feedback on how it fairs.
