if i get my middlebox removed will i have any problems with back pressure on the turbo? its a 2010 plate rs250?
Doesn't make it that much louder but massively improves it. You don't need to buy anything for it, Take it to a decent exhaust place and have them remove the massive mid box for a straight pipe.
If you want louder go back box route I've had both done separately and back box is louder and you get a "jet" type acceleration noise while on boost. Midbox is quiter but is what I've currently got as it's better day to day and gives better pops and bangs over the back box hope it help!
Sure i've listened to a few examples even on youtube with neither mid or back box and it does sound terrible..
Mid box all the way. Just back from a day at brands and its just brilliant. For 60 its an absolute bargain. Even had the person in the next garage come and ask what system I had because it sounded fantastic.
I've done it today. I agree with CCowan91 that it doesn't sound great in the videos. But anything I've heard aside from decats (talking of the RS250), doesn't sound much better either. That's the nature of the beast. Also, I don't think that revving the engine with the car stopped, which is what 80% of those videos show you, is representative of what it sounds when you actually driving it. In my opinion, what really matters is the sound in the cabin when driving. The rest is irrelevant. So, here is where I disagree with CCowan91 and -Jamie-. While driving the car, without both silencers it sounds great in the cabin. It's definitely loud when accelerating, even at low rpms (actually compared to stock you notice more of a difference up to 3 or 4000rpm, than above that). Because of this, I can see it not being for everyone's taste, as it can be too much while driving in the traffic. Even if you accelerate gently, the noise is there. But cruising at constant speed, you're almost back to standard and there is no drone (what you hear most is still the tyres rolling). When shifting and on the overrun, it's pops, bangs and burble galore when in sport mode. In normal mode it's the same minus the fireworks, with just occasional and more subtle burbles and pops. I also tried the car for a brief time with just the midbox removed. All I can say about it is that that's how the car should have been from factory. Very civilized. But civilized wasn't what I was looking for. What I would recommend anyone that is undecided on whether to remove the mid or the back box, is to do what I did. Do both, but in a way that you can mix and match. I didn't get the pipes soldered, instead I asked for connectors. That way I can easily swap parts and remove just the mid box, just the back box, both or neither. Check the pictures to have an idea. Right now, I'm in the mood for having both out.
