cv gaiter loose

  1. Hi all
R26 just failed mot for the nearside cv gaiter not being secure.
Apparently these need to be slid in somewhere to secure it.
Just having a look now and its the big end that's not secured down, although its not showing the joint.
And it looks as though a clamp was used before.

What's the method of securing these?

  2. Cv clip off eBay easy but messy when I did mine.

  3. Yeah I had a look at the other side, need to try and get one today as Mot runs today. Left it till last minute because I was on holiday

  4. Mine failed on this as well, and I was told that the whole thing will need replacing as you can't get the clips separately, the OE ones at least. Luckily, as the car was still under warranty at the time, they were replaced under the MOT warranty so I didn't have to pay a thing.

  5. Just use a strong cable tie, job done!
You don't need to have the proper clip for the MOT, it just needs to be secure.

  6. I've got some now, gonna do it in the morning. Just need to find something to squash the clamp

  7. Just done mine hub end drivers side! Nothing short of special cv boot clip pliers will work on the r26 due to the perfohub setup! Normal pliers will crimp the cv boot clip so it sits too proud and clips the hub carrier. Boot clip pliers crush the cv boot clip down so it clears the hub carrier!

    That or cable ties!

  9. I've used a cable tie, bigger problems now though....

Second failure was the licence plate bulbs not working, turns out the holders are all corroded. Just popped to scrappies and the ones for the normal meganes are different

  10. Your loom is most likely fubar'd aswell.

  11. I think ill need looms anyway as the pins are stuck in the plug. Best place to get them from?

  12. Btw I just found a spare cv clip and I have the tool depends how local you are.

Edit. I also have two spare lamps. No loom though.

  13. I've only found one person selling the housing and loom, no surprise they were charging a premium.
Anyway its been ordered and coming in the week.
    Thanks though

  14. Changed the loom this evening, number plates lights are working now.
Checked the cv boot and the cable tie hasnt held it in place, so not good

  15. best thing to use is a big jubilee, I replace them all with these when they fail and they never pop off again

  16. Unfortunately there's not enough clearance for a jubilee clip due to the hub carrier.

  17. there is, ive done it on numerous occasions. needs to be a proper jubilee not a cheapo one

  18. I've tried it. Fred tried it. National autos tried. The clearance is only a few mm. I've done it in the past on other cars with great success.

  19. Need a new boot anyway, the end was worn off so there's not enough rubber for the clip to hold

Fred has done mine with a ford RS specific clip before and it's still good now. I need one for the other side now as the boot has actually torn so will need replacing, anyone got a decent contact or price on the boots as the ECP ones are crap apparently.
