ds 1.11 problems

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Nunez20, Jul 10, 2015.

  1. had these pads for about a week and have done a track day on them but they have been making alot of noise, generally loud squeaking at low speeds. Having the brake fluid changed and asked them to pull them out to see where the noise was coming from and they are all pitted, have small cracks down the middle and the edges are flaking apart.

they are track pads so I assumed they would last a bit longer than 1 track session, anyone else had any issues with the pads?

  2. That's normal for most people mate , lots of people change back to a standard pad after track days

  3. Theyve probably overheated.

  4. Did you bed them in?

  5. Funny, I have DS1.11 on the Megane and DS2500 on the BMW and the BMW makes more noise than the Megane, to the extent I had the calliper checked as I thought it was sticking.

  6. Squeaking is normal and how did you bed them in

  7. I followed the instructions about bedding them in, it's more the state of the pads than the noise that is annoying they look like they are about to fall apart!!

  8. Have you got any pics ?

  9. i am taking them out tomorrow and will post some pics before I send them back to see what the company think about them

Outside possibility, I have seen race pads on a friends Porsche before looking pretty manky because he was tending to ride the brakes a lot which causes the pad to glaze over. Eventually this glazing will come off one way or another and ain't too pretty if it doesn't come off evenly. Oddly I drove on the road for a while in my race car putting 4.5k miles on it in a year whilst fitted with Pagid Yellows (ISTR he was using PF01 or Pagid Blacks). I never had a problem because on track I was tending to be very hard on the brakes whilst on the road I frequently use throttle blips and engine braking thus barely using the brakes at all (not so effective in stock Megane though). Just a thought. For a while he took to sanding them off smooth again with wet and dry paper, not such a fan of that due to some of the dodgy stuff in race pads.

  11. got the pads out today, I did not ride the brakes one the day was two of us in the car and would have noticed if either of us was doing that. Not been out in the rain either, these did 1 track day drove there and back and 2 trips to work which is about 80miles, here are the pics:

  12. What's the condition of your disks like?

  13. Perfectly fine and smooth to the touch

  14. Just double checked the discs and they have a few ripples in them

  15. I am about to fit 1.11 for road and track, now i am wondering whether to go back to SP 8.

  16. Might be the cause mate, probably time to renew if they have ripples. Mines done 80k and I'm on my third set, standard ones and two sets of r26r disks.

Might be worth seeing if you can take a pic of the disks at a decent angle so the pro's on here can tell if they are ready to be binned...

  17. Pads are fine .. The small crumbling on the edges always happens when they get really hot .

You can see your discs are worn as you can see the wear lines in the pads

  18. Look like mine last time I took them out, I'll be replacing mine at the weekend as there past it now with about 3-4mm on them, putting another set of the same in so I'll let you know what they look like

  19. That's perfectly normal for race pads

  20. The discs got fit new with the pads, well if it's normal then fair enough

  21. Just out of interest, is this why this sort of pad has a tendency to squeal more?

  22. They are a race compound pad after all ... Noise issues probably isn't something they are catering for when design for use a race tracks

It does state these pads are not legal for road use ... So I would hardly expect them to drive like OEM round town and when cold

Sorry this is not perfectly normal for race pads, have been through 4 sets of Pagid race pads and have 2 spares, none of them had big chucks broken off. Otherwise the surface looks pretty normal just not so keen on the big chunks that have broken off. Seen that on EBC pads though so maybe its more common than I realised. Do any of you guys grind a chamfer off the pads edges before fitting? These pads look perfectly flat and square.

  24. I've never personaly ground the edges off myself ... i have heard of this being done to reduce squeal tho . my DS1.11's have never squealed , and I've had a good few sets . I know other people who's squeal like mad , luck of the draw i suppose . Ive used ds3000's and they were horrendous for squealing lol

The big chuck missing in the middle doesn't look to good no , but the small crumbling on the edges I have seen on all pads I've used , even OEM .

  25. i have ground the edges off my present set of ds1.11 and it does nearly stop the noise, just a tiny bit right before i stop which i can put up with. My pads look exactly the same as the op's, so did my last set, i don't see it as a problem, the pads are brilliant, road and track, i can't see myself using anything else at the moment, hardly any dust, which is nice.
