Decat

  1. I've just recently got the 250 remapped on a rolling road. It's making 310hp with Scorp exhaust and forge ic.

If I go down the Decat route, will it need to be remapped again?

It won't need it but it will benefit from it and is the better option to get it mapped again

  3. It should just be a charge for a tweak and not a full map again though, RS Tuning (other tuners are available ) charge £100+ vat. On my R26 I got 10bhp and 15lb ft extra from the map tweak so daft not to have it done anyway.

  4. I really want a de-cat doing on y R, I'm sure the Ti system would sound mega, don't want anymore power just can't be bothered in the messing around, full day out at RS tuning then if the bolts come loose I'd wish I'd not messed around

  5. Bolts coming loose ?

  6. Yes rob I know of a couple who have had problems , rob Harrison on his R26 and John C , it would be just my luck Rob

  7. I'm thinking of getting a sports cat fitted to mine.

  8. I was told,that my Sports cat,would lose me around 10 bhp,but with my driving,that won't matter!.

  9. Who told you that Arthur ?

  10. RS tuning. Its around 9bhp,and 18lbs of torque. One of the mechanics told me.

  11. Can't see how it can lose power it's flows better

  12. Rob, go de-cat and let me know what it sounds like if it's good and louder I'll do it mate

  13. That's bollocks. If they are saying that, who do we trust now

  14. Overall i gained,as the standard Cat Exhaust/air box were ditched, for sports cat,Miltec/cone filter/intercooler/injectors./etc. Would anyone notice a 9bhp drop?. wouldn't you lose more,on a hot day?. Also told, that forge intercoolers that are supplied to RS tuning, are very different,to the ones bought direct from Forge.

  15. I'd like to see the pics of the 2 different intercoolers Arthur , seems weird mate,

  16. They look identical, but have very noticeable differences in performance. Iam not putting more in writing, as i don't want to start a war,but will tell all, when i see you all. I was quite surprised when all was explained to me.

  17. Again, there's a strange smell about that comment. Think I'll forget about a decat and save my money. Gutted there isn't anyone to trust now with regards to tuning the Megs.

  18. I would certainly trust Paul. Good work, reliable, good mapping, i just wished they would get on with things. They seem to have a lot of distractions when you are there. Took 10 hours to do mine.

  19. That's not good with your 20 hour drive home from Leeds.

  20. About 9 hours Rob. My sister is coming to Oulton, and Anglesea with me.She is either 86,or 88 years old.Iam not sure which.Would you like to come, and walk in front of us,with a red flag?!.

  21. Could only assume that losing power from fitting a sports cat would be compared to a decat and not the standard cat surely. Sports cat will flow better than standard

  22. So is the one Paul provides better performing i'm assuming??

  23. Slight thread drift but how long does it take RS to do a remap?

  24. I wouldn't trust these twats with anything in the future.
They are slating the airtec intercooler too, on their rollers it performed worse than standard but surprise surprise the one they sell is loads better.

  25. Better performing for his bank balance.

  26. The bolts are easy enough to get to if they do come loose. Will only take 10 mins to tighten them.
    Wonder why they came loose?

  27. I just don't want the inconvenience James of them coming loose

  28. Is this a common issue then?

    What decat's do they have?

Mine are still solid on the scorpion one after 7 months.

  29. Not had any issues with mine over 2.5 years buddy.

  30. You are correct.

    Standard cat = most restrictive
    Sports cat = less restrictive
    Decat = least restrictive

In other words , you will GAIN from using a sports cat , but GAIN more from using a decat

  31. No not saying issues just 2 people I do track days with have both kept coming loose, is also be the unlucky one

  32. What's supposedly so different with rstuning's intercooler then? Pm me?

  33. There isnt a RST intercooler.

    There are basically 3 brands.
chinese - costs not a lot , does ok job
forge - expensive - does ok job
airtec - tested on dyno and wasnt very good

    Hence not selling it.

Seems pretty simple to me ?

  34. No idea ! possibly wrong nuts used ? some alternative locking nut needed ?

  35. Ovy

    Ovy

I had my decat fitted @ rstuning I've done over 5k miles of hard road and track and no issues with it coming loose even replaced gearbox mount since then too.
As for the intercooler debate well I run a cheap Chinese universal one and it well out performs the stock item, if fact it performed just as good as the forge item on an almost identical spec car. IMO people seem to think they have to have a performance part because of its name and or price.
Sorry can't give anything solid on their airtec but...
I trust rstuning after all the airtec is one of the most expensive fmic so it sreems honest to say it didn't perform, they could just stock Poor performing parts and sell and fit them anyway?

  36. Sokol on here is running around 430 bhp with an Airtec.
He said he couldn't get the power with the Forge and had 80 degree temps but only 15 degrees above with the Airtec.

  37. Yeah I'm quite surprised at that, I run an airtec and been logging my charge temps compared to my old standard item and my pals Chinese item on his megane powered 197 and the difference is clear

I did write some figures down at home but general conclusion is that the standard item is fine until you start giving it grief then it can't get rid of the heat

My airtec pretty much remains ambient temp give or take 10 degrees which is ideal

  38. My downpipe decat has never came loose 2years its been on and I caught exhaust on trailer and ripped rest of it off once..
but... It is a josh wright racing self made one.. So bespoke made to fit haha
and my car is standard intercooler on stage 2 (+ a little) and all data logging on track showed it working brilliant still cooling well.. Will need bigger now only as I need extra flow as will be going gt28 over winter hopefully with the forged build

  39. Might have to give RS tuning a call and see what they say regarding getting one fitted then mapped again

  40. Mines never came loose, it's only been on for 7 months though.

Was good fun to fit, biggest problem was getting the old cat out, requires a bit of jiggling to say the least but I did mine when I changed me clutch and flywheel so the driveshaft was already out the way and engine was only on a couple of mounts so loads of movement.
