Head gasket

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Craig1978, Jul 9, 2015.

  1. Found out the head gasket is gone on my r26 I've been told the engine needs to come out and it's a massive job costing almost £2000 is this true? Seems expensive for a head gasket

It's very very rare for one to go, in fact yours is the first I've ever heard of.

  3. Oh great that makes me feel much better lol

  4. Exactly what I was going to say.

Never heard of an head gasket going.

What they said the symptoms are?

  5. 2k? Surely cheaper to buy a new engine and get mark black to drop it in? Iirc fred@btm has some new engines lying around.

  6. Thanks for that info

It's using water. Tricky to start & failed a chemical headgasket test blooming annoying. The garage where I got it from are going to repair it so that's a good bit of news as won't cost me anything

    I've done one before

  8. Are they a nightmare?

  9. A chemical test says its blown can these be inaccurate on these as the garage I got it from is saying it's not blown and disagrees with my garage

  10. I don't know, but have you had the system pressure tested? Small radiator leaks that aren't noticeable other than slow water loss are common on these, ask the garage to do it.

  11. My worry is my garage say it's blown but the garage I got it from says no. I can see a big bill dropping in my lap. I don't think it's been pressure tested

    Not really hard to do
Can be done in the car, takes a day to strip and send off and another day to get it back and rebuilt
