250 Any overheating issues

  1. High ambient temps are killing me....!!!

  2. Noticed the fan going hell for leather any time I stop, intake temperatures are in the 30's low 40's even with a big intercooler and it feels a little less responsive at low revs.

Oil temperatures are fine though, still sitting bang on the money as usual.

  3. My intake temperature always shoots up pretty high sitting in traffic. Think i seen above 50 degrees today with the heat.. Usually around 30-40 and thats in the UK. Standard intercooler.

  4. It should shoot down as soon as you get on boost and the IC starts getting air into it

  5. Took my wife's 2 year old Corsa to Goodwood FOS [too muddy and dusty for my Meg]
Halfway there driving along fan cut in lot of vibration from it [so never cut in before then] later smell of hot coolant. Heart sank. did all the usual heater on windows open slowed pulled in to service station.
NOTHING wrong. Prob never got that hot before so header blew off some hot air momentarily perhaps. Ran fine all weekend and back [No gauge you see]

    Cheers Andy

  6. What intercooler do you have?

  7. Airtec

  8. Wasn't there an issue with overheating on the 250 after fitting an uprated intercooler?

  9. The FMIC 'upgrades' seem to block the air getting to the rad. My mates fan used to go mad after coming in from a session on track with the large Forge FMIC. It never ever done it on the standard FMIC on track.

I'm not sure if the hot climate Forge intercooler would stop this, I think the Airtec is a similar size to the bigger Forge unit too ?

  10. It's not hot enough here for it to matter, if we lived in a sub tropical climate it might but even the 28ish degrees we have had recently the oil/water temps are still fine.
IIRC it was some of the people in places like Malaysia? or somewhere Asiatic that had the issues.

  11. It must be getting quite hot if your fan is on a lot.
I haven't heard my fan come in once while stationary and driving round my water temps stay around 80 - 82 degrees which is 14 degrees below my fan cutting in.

  12. My intake Temps in traffic are 30-40 with open filter and ktec intercooler but high 20s low 30 when driving

  13. Is that with the standard intercooler?

  14. Hottest days of the year this week so what water temps have people been seeing....?

  15. Yeah it definately does, what is too hot though? My highest oil temp i've seen is prob low 90s but I don't track the car, and that was sitting in traffic.

Usual oil temps are mid 70s to low 80s and intake temp usually around 30 driving about, peaking at about 50 in traffic on a hot day

  16. Hottest day, slow moving traffic, oil 82 intake 40-45, 50 max when stood, normal temp about 34

  17. So what's too high for an R26, we tracked a 172 on the hottest day, absolutely abused it lol, drove home spot on

  18. Can't say I've noticed mine running high, even at cadwell on a hot day!

I'm running airtec cooler (95mm core)

  19. I get 105 oil temps with an oil cooler

  20. 110 is not unheard of. Any decent oil will handle those temp with ease.

  21. 105 oil temps? Under what driving conditions? What you guys are currently experiencing is similar to our Aussie summers.

How long does it take for the coolant temp needle to reach middle (or 83*c for those with OBD2 monitoring)? I think i have a stuck thermostat because it takes forever to get up to 60!

  22. 105 is being at 110% on a track for 15mins

  23. Same last time I tracked mine, 104-105ish on the monitor.

  24. good to know the stock oil cooler is sufficient

  25. I had mid to high 30's IAT (10-12 degrees C over ambient) thursday while driving on highway/motorway.. that's with an airtec fmic...

  26. There isnt one.

  27. Oil temp. on 250/265 is calculated. No oil temp. sensor. So don't trust the readings on track days.
Also big problems with water temp. if you upgrade the intercooler. runing stage 2 or 3 on track days.

  28. Or downgrade to an Airtec.

  29. UK models might be different, but on my Aussie spec RS265 it has an oil to water heat exchanger sandwich block between the oil filter and the engine block.

As for oil temperature, most engines with VVT have an oil temperature sensor.

I am yet to get my hands on a service manual or parts catalog but it sounds silly for Renault to guesstimate the oil temperature

  30. Ring Renault Parts department and ask for an oil temp sensor.

  31. What opening temp water thermostat do you have on your 265 in Australia?

  32. The heat exchanger is for heating the oil quicker iirc

  33. yes, and with the renault extension for the torque app, you get a vvt oil temp pid, which suggests that there is actually an oil temp sender there..

  34. Actualy I have change the Forge intercooler for Airtec as Forge couldn't done the job.Very high intake temps.Up to 80 degress. On airtec is 15 deg. above outside runnning 420-430 HP!.
Same on friends 265.He also change to airtec with same results.

  35. Well the one that was tested at rs tuning actually performed worse than standard intercooler.

    What turbo you running?

  36. Found it.

  37. interesting. It does work on my car.Have a lot of logs.Paul couldn't finish the tune on forge.one pull and it was 40+ deg above outside temp. and the car was pulling timing. Now it is superbe.
    running gtx3071 on tial housing.

    Rodrigo Aragon likes this.
  38. Gotta love a Garrett.

Bet yours is a right animal. I had the same turbo on a previous car, spool up was insanely fast.

  39. Doesnt rs tuning sell the pro alloy intercooler?

  40. Just looked and yes they do.
