Currently needing to buy tyres, while doing some research through the many many posts on here I keep seeing people who've gone from 235/40 to 225/40? Can i ask why this is...before I splash out and all that. cheers
I know they are quite a wide tyre but in general and apart from price are there any actual performance reasons for running 225's? think I will be going with the pss. what about tyre pressures do they stay the same?
They'll be spot on 32 front 30 rear, mega tyres I use them for my road tree and I've done a track day on them, brilliant mate
I know you're sorted with these now, but the answer is 225's are a fair bit cheaper usually, and were a standard fit on some R26R's, and don't really offer any less grip. A good compromise I'd say. Better a quality tyre in 225 than a ditch finder in 235.
Incorrect , the standard width tyre for the R26.R was a 235 if you specked it with 888s then they were 225 and a semi slick is a wider tyre
I've bought 4 Pilot Super Sports for £396 from Oponeo on Monday. I'm hoping they aren't currently sitting in Calais going through a few heat cycles...
Ffs different style of tyre, he was asking for road tyres not semi slick track day tyres, so you was incorrect as I said.
8" wide wheel is 235 normal tyre while the 7.5" should receive the 225 Those are the best fit tyres for each wheel. R888 is tottaly difrent legue of tire and its dimension should not be mixed with normal road tyres
Same here, may fit 225x40-18 Dunlop DZ03g if I get myself another set of wheels for the track days. I was completely unaware they used the R888 in 225 as you can those tyres in 235 for another 2 quid. Interesting.
A semi slick 225 is the same width as a 235 road tyre, I've got DZ03 G tyres but R888s can be had for less than £130 each now
Do you like doing long sessions in the summer months I guess. The Dunlops just don't seem to go off IMHE and come in very quickly. I noted that a lot of the guys racing in CSCC use them, what was interesting was the same cars and often driven by the same guys would show a clear lap time curve if on say Michelin cups but when on the Dunlops every lap after the first one seems more or less the same. I still have them on the 944 from the still born Dunlop Production Cup for Porsche (18 people paid up, never got more than a handful of cars out then folded mid season). Only thing I don't like about the Dunlops is they don't like cold weather but then none of the track tyres are much good really when its 5 C and damp, they seem to work fine though of its say 15 C and damp.
Renault sold some R26R's with 225 tyres. What's wrong about that? Did they not do that? I was trying to help the OP by saying it's fine to run 225 tyres because even Renault supplied some cars with these fitted. If that gets yours and Steve's knickers in a twist then I'm sorry.
Not really as the tire you are refering to has tottaly difrent structure. It os basicly a race tire that somehow got a DOT aproval to be road legal. The only megane 2 rs was the ph1 225 that got 7.5" wide roms and it came with 225 road tyres. All the rest came with 8" width wheels and all were on the 235 except when citted with th r888.
