265 Random Brake Pad Question

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by OiNK, Jun 29, 2015.

  1. What percentage of my front pads do you think I have left, roughly?

Are these in urgent need of replacement?

  2. youre fine. I wouldnt worry i'd say near 75%

  3. The reason I ask is that my dealer said at my last service, which was 1 month ago, that I had 10% pad left and they needed replaced.

I looked at them and just thought they still appeared to have a decent bit of life left in them...?

  4. loads of life left! Unless you have a slightly sticky caliper and the inside has worn badly

  5. No, the calipers definitely aren't sticking...they even told me at the time they were in great shape and I wouldn't even need to replace the pins etc.

  6. I always assumed the OEM pads on the 265 were Brembo, someone told me they are ferodo pads, is that right?

Ferodo manufacture the OEM pads but I'm pretty sure mine had Brembo and Ferodo markings on them.

  8. Thanks Jamie,

Does anyone know what size of punch is required for removing the pins on the front calipers?

  9. Anyone?

  10. I just bought a punch set and selected the one that best fitted. A set was only a couple of quid.

    They look alright to me!

  12. If your pins are really seized up, a punch isn't gonna help. Get a rather big metal bar of 1x1cm (of something alike), and smash the bugger with a huge hammer. Big chance of bending the pins if they're really stuck (like mine).

If that doesn't work and the pins start to bend, you'll need a cutting grinder, and even then it is an extremely nasty job as you will need a long punch/pin to get rid of the last element.

Be sure to replace them with mrpink's pins that feature R-clips to retain it in place.

Also on the pads, for instance EBC recommends to change the pads when there is 3mm of material left. Yours seem to have plenty!

  13. Mr Pink pins?

Are these designed not to seize or what is the deal with them?

  14. Yeh I re-designed them to get rid of the collar on the pin which is what causes the big headache when removing them

The punch youll want will be 5.5. You may get lucky and get them out, or you may not and its a PITA.

If you want a set of pins pm me and ill let you know the payment details. (Cheers Tymen).

  15. Ok, thanks for the info, I will be in touch, won't be for a little while yet though.
