As above anyone else had and issues here? I've had my car say 3 months and got her from ktec who had serviced the car I believe. Ive done a mixture of track days, fast Road and normal driving and the light has come up saying the oil needs topping up! I went to rstuning for a map this week to replace the ktec map and Paul said he thought it smelt like she was burning oil. I have no leaks etc. Any recommendations? Cars a 2010 250cup with 33k
Not that mileage is any kind of indicator of use these days, 33k is no mileage at all really. If you're 100% sure it's not dropping then check the usual places (Starting with the worst case): Piston rings, Turbo, Crank seals, sump, Breathers
Right chaps went and got oil (didn't take my car) and checked mine, nothing in it which is crazy the car was apparently serviced before I collected it 3k miles ago, yes the car does get driven as it should but no way should it have drunk all that oil! Car has and always has pulled very hard, no smoke or indication that would make me think anything was wrong. I do however get oily black marks over the rear of the car which I thought was more down to the decat. Ive emailed ktec to see what they say. A friend is coming over whilst I'm away to do a compression test amd check plugs etc. What should the compression be on the cylinders on these? Thinking about the oil marks on the boot it could be turbo
One wonders what ktec were doing with it prior to sale, test car? I've had two cars with the F4r engine in them both a Clio and the Meg and neither have had noticeable oil usage of any kind between services. I think I had to top up the Clio once but even then it wasn't desperate and that thing got drive real hard!
Well cars topped up now, mates coming round to investigate but until I hear back from ktec I'll just have to keep an eye on the oil
Mine used around 1 1/2 litres before it's 1st service. It's used around 1/4 since then so say 2k miles. Pretty normal, uses a little more than my 200 did and I get the black soot up the bacof the car too. It's just the condensation out the exhaust until it's hot.
Have you checked the oil since purchase? Could it be that it left Ktec low on oil? Saying that if you have tracked it and it's been to rs tuning oil must have been checked? I mean dip stick never rely on electric measurements!
The car was apparently serviced so as a customer buying a car from a well known renault specialist I'd expect the oil to be filled correctly and yes it's done a brands evening session but again I've never had a car go through that much oil in so little miles hence not thinking about it. I'm not putting any blame on anyone or putting fault to the car as I'm new to renaults so have no idea what the norm is
As above, Have you ever actually physically checked it yourself on the dipstick? I take what the computer says with a massive pinch of salt. Mine uses a tiny bit of oil, Nothing major at all mind you though and always has done since i have owned it as far as i can remember.
No like I've said before I had no reason to believe a car serviced 3k miles ago would even remotely need the oil checked but yes when I actually checked the dipstick there was basically no oil in the car
I check oil weekly, never uses any but I always do it as good practice. During a 3 month period oil MUST be checked surely or is it me ? Especially with a track day/s included. Self help. As for amount used ? Yes its a lot unless it started with minimum in it. I would change oil and filter and a flush incase the piston rings are gummed , then you know where you're starting from, monitor and act according to results.
Doesn't seem normal at all. But if it hadn't been checked when you bought it, maybe it was already low like many have already said. My 250 seems to high higher usage to what i am used to with current and previous other cars. about 1L per 5k so far Fill, monitor and check regularly.
You tend to find that Renaults of old took 5l of oil where these newer ones take that little bit more. It is possible that it just wasn't given enough in the first place.
OP, are you saying there was no oil in the car just now, before you filled up? How much did you have to put in to bring it between the marks? I had to top my R26 up but only by about 0.5 lt/ 12k miles. As mentioned, black marks on the rear bumper are dirty water marks usually, not oil related.
A friend has looked at the car whilst I'm away and said the breather pipe wasn't connected so God knows why that was disconnected
In 5 yrs of ownership I've only ever had to top mine up once, about 6 months after I collected it from new and it took less than a litre.
