Yeah it's more work than I originally thought! Needs must though, old engine went pop, only on 46k too! Hopefully get it all finished by this weekend and then I can have my car back, getting fed up of an underpowered 1ltr fiesta! Although I'm going to have to break the new engine in so won't be able to hoon it around for a while!
1300 including a new cambelt (it's been in storage for a few years), so thought it best to change it) and delivery. He's got another 6 new engines too if your after one let me know and I'll drop you the details. Thought it was best off going new as the cost difference wasn't that much really when taking into account mileage/ service history/ warranty etc. E.g. renparts wanted 950 for a engine with 40-50k on it and a 3 month warranty. I could have picked one up for around 500 quid, but that's off a backyard ebayer, with little/ no service history and not hearing it running before being taken out, plus you never really know how it's been treated in the past. I'm pretty sure my old car had a hard life before me, it looked like it needed a new clutch (which from the looks of it would have been at least it's 3rd, as it looked aftermarket in there) at 46k!
Yeah either ragged to death earlier in its life, or a Friday after noon engine! Either way I wasn't to happy, only done about 8-9k miles since I bought it! Oh well at least I'll know it's all hunky dory and shiny new after this is done!
Finally got round to opening up my lower grill to fit a 6" funnel for the air filter. Had this. Cut the end off the new funnel and bonded the old one to the end for a perfect fit of the hose. Should get more air in there. From the front it's hardly noticeable compared to the smaller one, which Is the only bit you really see when close until I paint it matt black like the rest. A few feet away and it's not noticeable, which is what I want. Going to do something similar to the drivers side for my pre turbo cooler.
Almost to concourse spec now, underneath all shiny and white, replaced all acme bolts today with new ones , adds a finishing touch .
Think its a very popular mod on the ph2 172/182s, needs some relocation of a few things in the engine bay though
New engine is in, just need to fit some new drop links put the bumper back on and I have a working car again! Hopefully will do that tonight after work!
Been a nerd tonight and fitted a reversing camera. For no other reason that my head unit can support one. So ran the cable through the centre console Then under the seat rails to run the cable trough the side trim, to the back of the car I pealed off the boot rubbers so that I could feed the cable through the head lining, I wanted to feed the cable through the grommet for the rear windscreen wash to keep it nice and tidy. Then removed all the boot lid trim to run the cable to where the camera was going to be mounted. I then needed to run the power cable to the reversing lights for the camera, managed to use the existing grommets again to keep everything neat. Then chuck it all back together! You can see the camera just above the R.
Racked up 200miles on my shiny new replacement engine 1/3 of the way to breaking her in! Also recalibrated the steering angle sensor so my car is looking 100% again!
BC Coilovers fitted and MOT today at Rentec in Edinburgh - failed on an inner track rod end (nearside) so had that done as well. Still need to get them properly set-up.
Haha cheers Mark - that cheeky ceramic coating really is the business - thats 8 days since a wash, and covered in the bead residue dust that the wind is bringing in atm. Best thing is you only need to prewash and 2 bucket it to get it looking A1, and should last over a year, then its £60 to get the coating topped up again
Well I only got my car Monday but just changed to l.e.d interior lights & numberplate, bought a pack from partsulike.co.uk, they're okay but i think they're a bit to long really, they fit in everything okay but I could not use for boot light as it's vertically mounted. The interior roof lights only just fit so will keep an eye on them as they run a bit warm being so close to the plastic. They do look a lot better though. http://i.imgur.com/jH7qHkU.jpg old http://i.imgur.com/6iBWUZx.jpg New http://i.imgur.com/VvJNnyw.jpg Old and new for number plate. http://i.imgur.com/Iur29cR.jpg the one that wont fit.. http://i.imgur.com/yQgxJyn.jpg Old car with new car if interested Just ordered Phillips X-tremeVision H7 bulbs + Phillips SilverVision bulbs for the indicators. Also need to order some decent cleaning stuff! Would be nice if i could figure out how to get the original (in headlamp) DRL to work but I guess they use the same cable for the lower l.e.d one?
Only option i see is a 'auto dipped beam headlights' which is on and i have no idea what it does unless it overrides the auto option on the stalk.
Got to download some thanks. Heritage mini just 2 days too late to finish so missed show, thats amazing complete re-shell, finish Wednesday, start Ferrari 308 Thursday and Alvis restoration in tandem with that. Busy busy In between that my true love 265 cup almost concourse now.
Just got back from rentec Edinburgh, big shout to barry for holding on back as I had to travel through from Glasgow after work anyway got following parts fitted rear brake pads front shocks driveshafts gear box mount new exhaust hangers ktec 2.75" catback Finally thats the stupid click noise away and replaced with a lovely sounding exhaust
That's awesome mate, hearing nothing but praise for Rentec, which is good because I'm getting a service and an exhaust fitted there on monday
Good stuff mate, barry is a real honest guy and won't bullshit you, my gear box mount was nackered and he advised me to get it done if I wanted my exhaust done else I was risking the new exhaust, there was probably around 40mm travel in the bushes lol you should jump the bus into the city centre take a walk up the royal mile
