  1. yeah I am I think its time for new shocks and springs but I don't want to lower the car so Im thinking OEM, but now ads has left I don't think the price will be as good.

In that event may just see what other options are on the market but I already catch the splitter on high kerbs if im not careful so want to stay away from lowering it.

  2. Had all 4 tyres replaced today at CLCM in Edinburgh. .went for PSSs in the end

Looks stunning mate, Robs work is superb!

  7. Cheers mate! - yeah I'll be going back next year for a top up of the ceramic coating from him!

  8. Bit of a mini detailing session this week, during the glorious weather we've been having!

Managed to get the rear grills off (Big thanks to Steve1 on this for the pics on how to get them off), and get them treated with a sample of Sonax Trim Restorer I got from cleanyourride.uk a while back, quite happy with the results, will give them another coat in a week or 2.

    and back on the car...

I had used a nail brush before on the seatbelts and didn't really make a huge difference on them....so it was time to turn it up to 11 and get the Nilfisk pressure washer on them...with great results

Someone informed me afterwards that it may not be the best plan to use a pressure washer (due to potential weakening of the seatbelt) - so there's my disclaimer lol, too late for me anyway :tongueout:

PSS been on for about 800-100 miles maybe, and wearing pretty damn fast - down to about 6.5mm on the front, and 7.5mm on the rears

No traffic light launching or tyre kicking....but plenty of this

Coilovers ordered and should be getting them on Wednesday and fitted very promptly after that!

    Thanks for reading.....

Which ones did you go for in the end ???

Great reading by the way

  10. haha - cheers!

Went for the bargain BC Coilovers in street spring rates (7kg / 4Kg) - ordered them from forum trader Track Focus Direct his price happens to be the cheapest as well!

Looked into Cooksport Springs and new OEM Shocks; also Eibach Pro (minimal 10mm drop with those) & with new shocks - but the BC's offered so much value for money.

    Hi Papps
thanks for the info, keep us posted on them, you have some good roads in your neck of the woods, so it shouldn't be long before an update is on it's way

  12. Id be interested to find out how the BC coil overs are when out driving. I looked on bc website and they're cheaper than getting OEM.

Are they adjustable and do they lower the car?

  13. Yes they are fully adjustable in ride height , damper and camber

  14. How do they adjust, do you turn a few bolts or more complex ?

  15. Just wind a Colora up and down for the ride height but better off getting them fitted and paying to get it all line up , quite cheap though usually around £40 once you've set the ride height yourself

  16. You actually damper lower mount and leave the spring seat as it is, that way you still retain full damper travel.

The camber adjustment is done through the top mount. I have these and I'm more then happy with them although I am fitting a 7kg rear spring instead of the 4kg.

    Very well made product

  17. I'll try and give a detailed feedback / comparison report once I get them on Pagey - I'm unsure how much I am going to drop the car, I will go by what the specialist who sets them up reckons is best, ideally not that much of a drop!

Steve1 has already mentioned that he reckons 10 clicks from soft on Front, and 8 on rear should be the 1st damper settings I try out

  18. Yeah its the feedback from people like you Dan that has made me lean in the direction of going for them!, plus knowing how cheap it is to get custom springs direct from them as well is a bonus

  19. Cars looking brilliant, where are you getting the coilovers setup ?

  20. I think I may be getting these given the cost, quality look and adjustability. I'd appreciate finding out how you get on with them especially if you can manually set them between normal road use and those times when you go for a blat.

whats the difference with the 7kg and 4 kg ?

  21. Basically spring rates mate, 7kg equates to just under 400lb mate

  22. I had bc coilovers on my celica gt4. Transformed the car even from the tein suspension it had.
When I get some cash I'm getting them for my megane.

  23. Fitted a set of these to my mates STI Hawkeye scoob. He says they're brilliant.

  24. Cheers Mark!,

Was thinking about getting them done at the place in Whitburn, Extreme or something like that I think they're called?

    Any recommendations yourself mate?

  25. You could get the rears in any spring rate you wanted, Track Focus Direct asked if I wanted a custom rate at no extra charge - I'm new to this, but in Kg it represents the amount of force to move the spring 1 mm, or something to that effect - Mick Pittman (Diamond) reckoned that the softer option on the rears made them that much more compliant on the road - failing that, its £30 a spring to go more firm, as Dan has opted for. Steve1 ASTs are a bit harder, c8Kg front and rear

  26. the car looks great mate, I may do the rear grills the difference in your pic of one done one not was great. How long did it take getting them off?

  27. Your car is looking beautiful andreas

  28. Cheers mate!

Very quick to get them off - each one has 6 clips, 3 across the top and 3 across the bottom....

Start with the one on the drivers side as you have more room for your arms: Get down low (lying down) and start with the 2 clips nearest the exhaust - press them down towards the middle (Top one down, bottom clip upwards) with one hand on the outside pulling gently, once the clips click the grill will pop out slightly - do the same for the next 2 and pull gently again from the outside, it then comes off very easily.

Very easy to get back in as well.

The Sonax Trim restorer I have used is already looking a bit tired though.....I've been recommended 'Black Wow' or Gyeon Trim, so may give them a shot in the next few weeks or so!

  29. Cheers mate! - understeering like a little bit of a who** at the mo tho - still to get the suspension set up! lol

  30. Booked it in to be set-up yet ?

  31. Not yet!, will def get it booked next week, The understeer showed its head in the rain recently.

  32. You must of been pushing on then , good man

  33. haha - yeah its a bit easier to get near the limits when its pissing it down!

  34. Lmao

  35. superb read-through, progress all the time which is nice to see!

couple of questions i have for you...

1, how come you opted for the ktec shortshift over the enginedynamics shortshift which is only £80 compared to £240?
2, where did you order the decals from on ebay im after some for my cup :tongueout:

motor looks quality and as you say its nice to have a motor that you can enjoy and it be affordable!

  36. Nice read, nice project, well done;
    Cars looking great

  37. Cheers mate!!!

Question 1: The engine dynamics won't really work properly on the phase 2 meganes (2006+), plus the Ktec is a direct copy of the proper 'andrewjeffs' short shifter (an old service he did as a favour for the community) - Boardy on this, has kindly taken this on, and does them for the guys on this, pm him!

Question 2: The decals on the roof and side and the ones that used to be on the bumpers were standard on the R26 models from the factory (tho you could delete for free as an option, which many did) - if you get them from renault they won't be cheap, prob in the £600 range for all of them; you can get copies, but they tend to look fake to the trained eye - you have a nice ph1, get some Renaultsport decals made up?, could be a unique look. a ph1 with r26 decals would look a bit off imo

  38. Thanks mate!

  39. A few updates recently.....

Finally had the geometry done on the coilovers at the Dreadnought Garage in Callander (Big thanks to -Jamie- for the head up on this place) and the ride height adjusted.

2 Sundays ago was my first ever RS meet, at Indy RenaultSport specialists Rentec in Edinburgh, was a great day and great to meet people from the community:

Here's a couple of DSLR pics from a chap who attended:
